Tips to go green all year round!
- Use cloth diapers. After a year of using them, I have to admit it is much easier than I thought. It takes an extra ten minutes every two days to use cloth diapers. They are well worth the time and the initial expense.
- Save money on utilities by visiting your utilities website and enrolling in their energy saving (and money saving) programs.
- Recycle grocery bags by using them as gift wrap.
- Recycle your table scraps with a DIY compost bin.
- Try some of these easy green living tips. We have implemented many of these ideas over the past year and saved money and lessened our waste.
- Recycle old clothes by making purses or toddler dresses.
- Reusing mailing envelopes. (The yellow envelopes cannot be recycled)
- Don’t waste old bread, use it to make your own bread crumbs.
- Don’t toss all those crayon drawings recycle your kids’ artwork.
- Take your own containers to restaurants to use for doggie-bags.
What is your favorite “green” money saving tip?
I really wish I could use a clothes line more. We just don’t have the space indoors for anything larger than a small clothes rack, and at times that is tight. Outside I can’t dry our clothes during allergy season, which in NJ is long. The pollen gets on the clothes and makes my husband and son miserable. I have learned to settle for an energy saving dryer.
I wish we could have a clothesline too, but the HOA doesn’t allow it! I use a drying rack indoors for a lot of things and was thinking about hanging a line in my garage. I would hang one in the basement, but my washer and dryer are upstairs so that would be a pain!

I didn’t use cloth diapers, but I did use G Diapers with my son. The diapers are fully biodegradable and can be flushed down the toilet. Diapers that contain only ‘number 1′ can even be composted!
I also wish I could hang a clothesline…I love the outside smell

Our family re-uses plastic containers that sour cream, butter and parmesean cheese comes in for pouring our grease into or to store things little items in.
