31 Days of Read Alouds

31 Days of Read Alouds from The Happy Housewife

When my kids were younger I would spend my free time on the library website reserving books for our homeschool read alouds. Reading aloud is one of the most important things you can do with your toddler and preschooler to help them develop language skills and a LOVE of reading.

Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty.  It should be offered to them as a precious gift. —Kate DiCamillo

Studies show that children who read the most achieve higher test scores and stay in school longer regardless of socioeconomic background. Reading unlocks the imagination and helps them experience far away places, adventures, and cultures without leaving their living room.

Children are made readers on the laps of their parents. —Emilie Buchwald

One way to create a love of reading is to read aloud to your kids every day. Even if you only have fifteen minutes before bedtime, reading aloud can have life long benefits for your children.

To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark. —Victor Hugo

A few years ago, I committed to reading aloud to my children every day and then reinforcing the stories with fun crafts and activities. Our reading time led to this series, 31 Days of Read-Alouds!

I cannot live without books. – Thomas Jefferson

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. –Dr. Seuss

My teenagers still talk about how much they loved some of these books we read aloud to them when they were little. You never know how a book might impact your child in a positive way!
