Spray Painted Dresser Makeover

Here’s a cute dresser makeover from Tiffany.

I see dressers like this all the time at yard sales and even at the thrift store for under $50. They are solid wood, very sturdy, and last forever.

If you see one for sale, consider buying it and updating it with a few coats of spray paint.

For Tiffany’s dresser she removed the top piece and the lower drawers. I love this idea because the baskets give it texture underneath and deeper storage.

She used Valspar color radiance flat spray paint and the color was caramel honey. I think yellow is absolutely gorgeous!

This works great in an entry, dining room, or could even be a television stand. You would just need to drill a few holes in the back of the dresser for the cords if you wanted to store your DVD player or cable box in the space at the bottom.

Tiffany did not prime her dresser before she spray painted it, but if your surface is shiny I would recommend lightly sanding and priming if you don’t want it to eventually chip. Tiffany likes the distressed look, so she painted it without priming.

Make sure the furniture is clean and dust free before spray painting and allow the paint to fully dry between coats. I recommend allowing the paint to cure for several days before placing anything on the furniture.

When I lived overseas the only paint available was spray paint, so we used it to paint everything. I was always happy with the spray painted finish. If you haven’t spray painted a piece of furniture before I would try it! It covers well, especially in areas with fine detail, and is quicker than painting with a brush.

I spray painted this mirror for the girl’s bathroom and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I tried chalk paint originally, but it was very hard to get coverage in all the wood detail. I was able to spray paint it in about three minutes.

I love that Tiffany turned the four drawers she removed from the dresser into shelves! I absolutely love this idea and that she personalized the shelves for a friend!

Tiffany attached her drawers together but there are several other ways you can use dresser drawers as shelving. So, so cute and clever!

These dresser drawers found on Country Living were turned into a bookcase. Remove the hardware allows you to position the shelves in different directions. Lining the drawers with wallpaper or fabric gives it an awesome custom look.
