A few months ago I showed you my tip for simplifying hanging lots of small pictures on the wall. Instead of hanging the pictures I hung shelves and placed the pictures on the shelves! After hanging these black and white photos in my last six homes I’m kicking myself I didn’t do this sooner.
When I hung the shelves I never intended on leaving them the natural wood. I was planning on painting them, but wanted to hold off until I painted my walls. Well after trying several colors my walls are finally painted and so are the shelves. This is another one of those projects that was so simple I am kicking myself I didn’t do it months ago.
It took me about 30 minutes of painting time, but the total time was about a day because I wanted to make sure the shelves were dry before putting on a second coat. I love the new black shelves!
Total cost for paint $10. But I only used about 1/10 of a quart so I have paint for several other projects left over.
Do you see the blue in the corner of the second picture? I painted my table too! I shared those before and after photos here.

Toni,
This is so beautiful! I have been wanting to paint our walls about the same color as your yellow and we just redid our living and dining area in black off of Craigslist. This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Now I just need to find the energy and time to do this :-)!

I love that you’ve got a new “Florida” color scheme, with your blue table and yellow walls!

What are these shelves called? I tried to find them on the IKEA website but couldn’t. This is exactly what I want for my large expansive wall in the front room.
Thanks for the great idea!
