If you live close to the beach or are planning a beach vacation this summer here’s a tip for storing and carrying all those beach toys!
Use an old laundry basket to store and carry the toys. It is easy to carry as well as easy to clean all the beach toys because the water goes out the holes. A laundry basket also holds more than a mesh beach bag so it’s great if you have a lot of toys.

We do this for our beach toys. We don’t live near the beach but we go each year and my parents live on a lake with some sand beaches. We also found that if you drill holes in the bottom the water will run out even better when you rinse the toys.

Great tip Lindsay!

Not a bad idea. But you know the reality and truth is that sand ALWAYS somehow travels into the house and into the bed and everywhere when you get back home!

I store the toys in our garage like this, but I never thought to actually carry them onto the beach in the basket. Duh!! I always try to shove them in the mesh bag, and I have to have two of them. And, our kids are all older (11 and up!), but I have an obsession with the beach and building sandcastles. Oh well, at least they all still humor me 🙂

We are at the beach this week and people have marveled at my mesh laundry bag. They keep asking were I bought it. Come on! It’s a laundry bag! It’s so easy to stuff with the toys, shake out the sand and toss over my shoulder. I wouldn’t be able to tote a basket since I have to keep one hand free for reigning in the children. 😉

I love the laundry basket idea and the mesh laundry bag too! Clever ladies.

We spend our summer at a lakeside beach with communal toys (!), so toting them is not the issue. Its the chairs and towels! Any ideas for them?

We carry everything in a laundry basket. Blanket and a few towels in the bottom, toys are in a mesh type tote inside the basket, lunch boxes and drinks go in on the other side of the basket, and my laptop on top wrapped in a towel.

Tip: CARRY a large paintbrush. This is so handy for dusting off metal chairs, toys, feet, the bottom of beach bags. People gawk at me on the beach, but then they nod their heads and say, “good idea.”

No matter if these get sandy or wet which of course, they will at the beach. It’s also handy because with all the air holes in it, you can just hose it off when you get back. Clean-up is a breeze with a laundry basket. We use them on our pool deck as well to hold toys and other items that need to drain. They are raised up off the ground so the water can run out (you can make more holes in the bottom for this).

I also take baby powder, to dust the sand off of our bodies..it helps if you can’t find an outside shower.

We have lived in Hawaii for almost 4 years and I have never thought of this! It’s a fantastic idea!! The irony of it, is we are probably moving in the next 3-4 months! (My husband is in the Navy.) I can use this idea for at least a few months. I love your blog!! I learn so much from it!!
