Kitchen Tip Tuesday ~ Potatoes

Here are a few mashed potato tips.

Cut up the potatoes, they boil faster.

Leave the skins on if you can stand it, it is healthier.

Don’t let the potato water go down the drain, save the water for making potato bread.

After you boil the potatoes and drain (but save) the water, put the potatoes back on the stove, on low, for about a minute or two. You will see steam rising from the cooked potatoes. This keeps your mashed potatoes from being watery.

Did you know you can substitute sour cream for milk in mashed potatoes?

Add some roasted garlic or minced garlic to the potatoes for some yummy garlic mashed potatoes.

If you have leftovers, you can use them in bread, potato pancakes, and shepherd’s pie.

I found this receipe for bread w/o milk. Do you know what milk does for bread and does the water have to be heated to make the bread?

Thanks for the tips on the potatoes. 🙂 Using sour cream makes the potatoes taste creamier for sure. 🙂
