My husband loves asparagus, but I wasn’t sure how much he would love grilled asparagus. I did a little research and found that grilled asparagus is loved by many so I decided to give it a try.

Remember asparagus is one of the vegetables that has the least amount of pesticide found in the non organic variety to it’s a great vegetable to add to your diet!

Grilled Asparagus

Prep Time1 hour hr 5 minutes mins
Cook Time6 minutes mins
Total Time1 hour hr 11 minutes mins
Course: Side Dish
Servings: 4
Author: Toni Anderson

Ingredients

  • Asparagus approx 12 spears
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/2 teas salt
  • fresh ground pepper
  • skewers

Instructions

  • Trim the asparagus and place in a shallow dish.
  • In a bowl mix together oil, vinegar, and minced garlic. Pour over the asparagus.
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper over the asparagus and allow asparagus to marinate for about an hour.
  • Skewer the asparagus. (Make sure you put the skewer through the thick parts of the asparagus). This got messy so I did it over a cookie sheet.
  • Place skewered asparagus on the top rack of the grill over med-high heat. Grill for 3 minutes, then flip and grill another 3 minutes.

We love grilled asparagus! I could seriously eat this everyday =) In the winter you can put the stalks on a baking sheet and roast them in the oven at 400 degrees, time varies depending on the thickness and how well-done you like them.

My kids love asparagus, so in the non-grilling months of the year, I just lay it on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and roast in the oven. Yum!

We love asparagus…even my 4 and 3 year olds! I just had it grilled yesterday for the first time…so yummy! But who can afford it…the only time it is “cheap” is at Easter time. and that’s 1.99/lb otherwise it’s always 3.99/lb here. I’ve never seen it at our farmers’ market, so it must not be easy to grow here in MO.

I agree, it is an expensive vegetable. We still buy it usually around 2.99lb. It is a labor intensive growing process. We plan on trying to grow some next year in our backyard garden.

Genius! Leave it to you to be so brilliant. Skewered asparagus…I love it! Can’t wait to give this a try … we love asparagus, but I usually spritz with olive oil, give it a shake or 2 of sea salt and then broil…love the skewer idea! You’re brilliant! =)

I always think it is funny when people make “faces” when you mention asparagus as if you said a bad word! I have always adored asparagus and as a result so do my kids. This was a special treat for the family, the grilling made the flavor of the mix really stand out…..mmmm good! I have grilled asparagus before, but not with these flavors, so it was great! Thank you so much!!

I love grilled asparagus as well. I make it like you did and it is fantastic. Sometimes a sprinkle it with a little grated Parmesan cheese after it comes off the grill just for a little different taste.

I was just giving this recipe a shot when i noticed that there isn’t a measurement for the amount of oil. I am just going to wing it for now but thought you might want to edit that for the future! Thanks for taking the time to share with us! Look forward to seeing how these come out. 😀
