Chocolate Chip Whole Wheat Oatmeal Cookies

Chocolate Chip Whole Wheat Oatmeal Cookies

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour (I use whole wheat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups oats
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. In a large bowl mix butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Add baking soda, salt, oats and flour. Fold in chocolate chips. Spoon onto a cookie sheet or stone and bake for about 10 minutes. Take out of the oven just before they look done and let them sit on the cookie sheet for another 2 minutes.

These turned out pretty good. The next time I make them I think I will try substituting the brown sugar with natural sugar and see how they turn out. With 3 cups of oats and 2 cups of whole wheat flour these cookies are filling and full of fiber.

I have to get back into the habit of using only whole wheat. just can’t get away from the yummy white for my cookies…hee hee, but since I have LOTS of wheat berries, and know how good it is for you….that should be my answer. :)

Yum! I’ll definitely have to try this recipe next time. Lately, I have been using “Sugar in the Raw” (I think it’s turbinado sugar) to replace the white sugar in my choco chip cookie recipe. I know it’s not as healthy as sucanat or rapadura, but it’s gotta be better than plain white sugar, right? Anyway, the sugar crystals are really big and I think the choco chip cookies taste even better.

That sounds so good! I’ve wanted a whole-wheat cookie recipe but I just wasn’t sure how it would turn out. I’ll definitely have to try this one!

I do not need a new recipe for chocolate chip cookies – especially ones that use ww flour. Now I will be making more cookies :)

I promptly printed out the recipe and made these cookies this afternoon. I added walnuts, raisins, and dried cranberries with the chocolate chips to equal just over 1 cup of additions and used a reduced amount of turbinado sugar. All the kids agree that I must add this recipe to the family book. Thanks.

I’ve converted most of my quick bread and muffin recipes to use whole wheat flour, but haven’t tried cookies yet. I’ll have to give these a try soon!

THese sound delish!! My children don’t even notice most of the time when I use whole wheat for cookies, muffins, and such. I do try to use whole wheat pastry flour which is lighter. :D

made these today… delicious. Mine look a lot different than the ones you have in the photo above, but they taste wonderful. I made one batch with raisins and one with mini chocolate chips.

My son and I are going to give these a shot today. I will be grinding the wheat and using natural sugar so I will let you know how they turn out.
