Check out our renovation project plan here.
Can you believe it has only been three weeks since we closed on the house?
It feels like forever!
Today we went over to the house to get it ready for painting this week. We’ve hired out the painting since we are painting everything from the trim to the ceiling. Our doors and trim were painted with oil based paint, unfortunately. We discussed going back to latex, but feel like it will be easier and cheaper to use oil on the parts of the house already painted with an oil based paint.
Actually the oil based paint cleans very nicely so hopefully the doors will stay clean-ish.
The girls finally picked their colors (after changing their mind several times) and I’ve settled on a color for the rest of the house.
Our color choices are below, all Sherwin-Williams. I’ve also included them on the graphic above.
- Main house color: Front Porch
- Paneling, trim, doors, & built-ins: Pure White
- Girl’s room #1: Impatient Pink accent wall, Tantalizing Teal other walls
- Girl’s room #2: Charisma accent wall, Diminutive Pink other walls
- Boys’ room: Mountain Stream
I’m not 100% sold on Front Porch, but I have it on several walls in the house and I like it. It is hard to tell since there are no floors or trim or really anything, but I think it will look great once it is done.
I mentioned last week that we hired someone to finish the drywall. Unfortunately the work was not great. We are trying to get him to come back and fix his cruddy work, but if not we’ll be touching up a few spots ourselves. Not awesome.
Finally, in good news, I got these AMAZING chairs through a Facebook swap group.
They need to be refinished but they are in great shape structurally. I absolutely LOVE them. The best part about it is I only paid $20 for the pair!
Of course my dad told me this was NOT the time to be buying furniture projects, but when I see a deal I just can’t resist. Plus after all this work is done I’ll probably miss being sweaty and covered in dust and grime on a regular basis.
Tomorrow trim is going in all the (to-be) carpeted rooms and we are prepping for paint. We are getting closer to being finished with step one and I can’t wait!
This is part of our ongoing renovation project for our new home in Florida. Our goal is to be done by Thanksgiving or else. Follow the daily accounts of our real life during this DIY renovation process here.

The amount of work you and your family have accomplished is amazing! Can you give some of the details on your house? Bedrooms? Bathrooms, etc?
Toni Anderson says
Sure- I’ll try to post some of that information later this week.
