Have you ever seen a nice solid wood dresser at a yard sale or thrift store and passed it up because it looked so dated?
It is amazing what a little paint and new handles can do….
My uncle is painting their bedroom furniture that is over 20 years old. It looks great doesn’t it?
Paint is one of the least expensive ways to makeover a room, piece of furniture or even a picture frame! So before you throw out that dated chair or dresser consider giving it a makeover with paint!
Update: My aunt emailed me and shared the process.
- First sand the dresser. (almost down to bare wood)
- Apply 2 coats of KILZ.
- Sand again.
- Apply another coat of KILZ.
- Then apply 3 coats of Dutch Boy interior latex satin paint Black # F16-1
She said it was a lot of work but well worth it! I agree!

This looks great! My daughter has a white desk that we want to transform to match her room (zebra and hot pink). Is there any prep work required, like a light sanding, to help the new paint adhere? I have never tried a painting project before so any advice would help!

She described what steps are taken just above you.

Those are almost the exact same dressers we have in our guest room…. they belonged to my husband and his sister when they were kids…. might have to go paint them now 🙂

The finished dresser looks fantastic! I love the change. I never think to do things like that. I should! I really really should!

The updated look is fantastic!

What color did he use? This would be perfect for our master bedroom furniture – and a whole lot cheaper than new!

I keep thinking I should do that to my dresser. I got it for Christmas 25 years ago!! Thinking it’s time to give it a light sanding and paint it 🙂

I have been tempted to do something similar to my daughter’s bed that used to be mine. It was a canopy, but her room is too small to pull it off. Our idea is to cut off the posts and paint it to match her purple and pink room.

I often buy old furniture on Craigslist and paint it. I’m working on a very old buffet right now. Paint is a simple and easy way to “transform” an old, tired piece of furniture.

My husband did that with our bedroom set too! Its so cool to see how you can reuse/redo things and make them look new again. 🙂

Oh, that is what I need to do with my bedroom suite and then pass it on to my DD. I have log furniture that we need to ginish before moving it into our home.

Yay! You mean there is hope for my 1960’s hand-me-downs? Yikes. When can I find the time. Paint does wonders, I agree. (That’s why I wear make-up ;-)))

No joke, I have that tall dresser, and just refinished it, in almost the exact same way! Planning on posting it next week!
