I went against my self imposed Lowe’s ban and spent the morning looking for ceiling fans. I ordered the kids’ fans on Amazon, but I wanted to see how the paint colors looked in the house before I bought the fans for the living and family rooms.
Before we headed to Lowes I stopped by the house to measure the hinges we are replacing.
This is how we take notes. A picture of the item, with the measurement, and how many we need. Don’t say we aren’t high tech around here!
I also purchased replacement recessed lighting which was on sale. I’ve been looking at lights for several weeks, but each light was $24 each. Today the LED retrofit downlights were on sale with Lowes for $30 for two. I bought four packs which will replace all but a few lights in the house.
I LOVE the fan I found for the family room. We are installing dark hardware on the barn door and I purchased dark knobs for the built in cabinets.
It’s the Harbor Breeze Lake Placido 52-in Aged Iron fan. We installed it with the darker blades showing. It took about an hour to install it, so it wasn’t the easiest fan we ever installed, but it wasn’t too bad.
I love this room even though we don’t have floors and everything is still taped off.
Here’s my brother, who arrived as the last screw was being installed in the fan.
He has a knack for showing up right when we are FINiSHING the job. 🙂
I started working on the bathroom vanities tonight. The house has four and a half bathrooms. We completely gutted the half bath. Two other bathrooms are getting a cheap makeover and two bathrooms will be upgraded at a later date.
I’m hoping to upgrade both bathrooms for a few hundred dollars which means keeping the vanities and painting them.
The current vanity in the master bath was painted black with a very glossy paint. It might even be oil based paint. I wasn’t sure how the chalk paint would cover the black paint.
I’ll be posting a tutorial once I’m finished or perhaps a what not to do depending on how it turns out. I lightly sanded the doors before painting.
This is after one coat of Annie Sloan Pure White chalk paint. It will definitely need a second coat, but I’m pleased with how it covered the door.
The hardwood floor is getting delivered tomorrow, since it has to sit in the house for a few days before it is installed. (Monday- woohooo!!!!)
We cleaned the office floor (it was so dirty) so that the wood wouldn’t be sitting in a pile of construction dust.
We are changing out receptacles, lights, fans, and switches tomorrow so it should be a busy day. The painting is almost done and I love how it looks. Only a few more days until the floors are installed and we get closer to moving in!
