Check out our renovation project plan here.
I’m sooooooo disappointed. Today we had a handyman come to the house to install trim and see if he could help fix the awful drywall job. The longer we looked at the job the more issues we found.
It will take a few days to get the house ready for painting and we have to pay a second person to redo the job. We are also going to put orange peel on all the walls that were skimmed because the texture is so off from the other walls.
We were hoping to be able to get it done quickly so we could stick close to our painting schedule. These three rushed over to the house to help the handyman sand the walls.
The did an amazing job and their hard work shaved a day off what we have to pay the new guy.
Unfortunately the house is not ready to paint, and since our painter has a few other jobs we won’t start on paint until at least the middle of next week.
Since the floors go in after the paint and kitchen goes in after the floors, it pushes us back two weeks which is a really long time since there isn’t anything we can do to speed up the process.
The house is basically prepped for painting and tomorrow we’re going over to help tape for the orange peel. Hopefully my years of taping off walls will pay off and we can save on labor for the handyman.
The good news is that if this is our biggest set back, it isn’t that bad. It also gives us time to get a few extra things done from phase 2.
Hopefully there will be lots of progress made tomorrow!
This is part of our ongoing renovation project for our new home in Florida. Our goal is to be done by Thanksgiving or else. Follow the daily accounts of our real life during this DIY renovation process here.

Have you written to the Better Business Bureau and YELP about the original dry wall guy you had work for you?
Toni Anderson says
We got a hold of the guy last night. He offered to fix the work, but I don’t feel his work is up to par. I think there were two issues- the first being he wasn’t that good and the second that he ran out of time and the did a rush job at the end.

Your posts are keeping me focused on staying positive as we go through a renovation in our home. We aren’t doing it because it’s too extensive. Yesterday, I woke with the thought that they will be finished in two months. When the workers said three months, I thought I would cry and we’re a little over two weeks into the project….
So, thanks for sharing what you’re experiencing.

Boo! Hiss! Mean dry wall disaster. I’m terribly disappointed that this changes our plans to hang out together, but I am a big girl and will get over it.

Toni, You never did show pictures of your house when it was all done. Or did I just miss them.

We aren’t finished! We took a break over Christmas so our kids could have a bit of normalcy but we are back at it again.
