A reader, Tracy, sent the following about frugally creating a pantry in their mobile home.
Our large family lives in a double wide mobile home. The person who designed our kitchen had to be a man! There was very little storage space and few cabinets, even though the kitchen itself is quite large.
Being a thinker, I had to come up with another option for kitchen storage and food type items. This area needed to be large enough for grain/food pails, a large upright freezer, and two large food/health and beauty shelves for our abundance of coupon shopping.
Our home has a living room and a family room area. I came up with the idea of closing off one end of the family room and thus creating a pantry. It has been such a blessing! It was done for less than $50 (wood and drywall) and has given me a space that holds:
- one large freezer
- one large side by side refrigerator
- ten pails of grain
- two large shelving units
- ten-fifteen cases of water
It has made me one happy momma! I hope this helps someone who is on a budget to be able to create a little more kitchen storage if needed.
