Every night before going to be, set the kitchen timer for ten minutes. Then, spend that time doing a quick pick-up of the house.
It’s amazing how much you can get done in ten minutes if you are focused.
Who likes waking up to a sink full of dirty dishes anyway?
If the house is already spotless, spend that ten minutes doing extra things that rarely get done. For example, spot cleaning the walls, windexing the front door, or giving the bathroom a quick once over all are jobs that slip through the cracks at my house.
The goal is to spend the last ten minutes before going to bed productively.
I do this with my kids too. Right before they go to bed we have a 10 minute tidy (taken from a kids television show from way back). It helps them get into the habit of picking up their toys. If everything is already picked up they get a little extra free time each evening.
