I was able to finish taping off the walls and ceilings, although I ended up with a migraine so that’s all I did.
As I was taping with the paper I realized it reminded me of wrapping Christmas presents and instead of a new toy, when I rip off the paper I will have new walls. 🙂
DH and the boys started cleaning out the garage since our kitchen cabinets will be delivered on Tuesday. We thought the cabinets would be the hold up on the project but they came early and everything else has been slightly delayed. They can’t be installed until the floors are installed, which doesn’t happen for another two weeks.
I looked at countertops the other day and these were my three top choices.
The pictures aren’t great because I was trying to take them in full sunlight and I couldn’t even see the screen on my phone.
From left to right- Giallo Ornamental Light, Crystal White Quartz, Crema Caramel. The middle one is quartz, and the other two are granite. The quartz is my favorite of the three. We are installing white cabinets with a chocolate island so I think it will look very nice.
I found this picture on Houzz and I really like the light and dark contrast with the lighter counters.
Of course I need to price it out and that will help me make my final decision.
I also went through and counted outlets and lights that we will be replacing. I’m also considering replacing the vents. Has anyone ever painted vents? I’m assuming you can spray paint them, right?
We have a lot of work planned for this weekend, including building a wall in the back room.
If you remember, we took down the sliding glass doors in the living room. The green room you see in the background will eventually become two different rooms. The brown door on the left side of the back wall goes to the garage. We are moving that door to the right side of the wall so that the entry from the garage aligns with the entry to the kitchen.
We will then divide the green room (with a wall) to create a mudroom on the side where the new garage door will be and the other side will be my office.
There will be a door on the new wall that leads to my office. I’m probably not describing it very well, so I’ll have to take a photo of our plans once we draw them.
The house still needs to be cleaned out a bit too- we are trying to get the weekly trash collectors to take as much as possible so we don’t need to make a many runs to the dump! I’m probably going to put a bunch of things on Craig’s List this weekend to get rid of them as quickly as possible since we need to make space for the cabinets next week.
Here’s to a productive weekend!
This is part of our ongoing renovation project for our new home in Florida. Our goal is to be done by Thanksgiving or else. Follow the daily accounts of our real life during this DIY renovation process here.

for what it’s worth–i would choose one of the granite countertops. The plainer white quartz will show every. single. crumb. all the time. My mom gave me this same advice when we did our kitchen 2 years ago and I’m so glad i listened to her.
And yes, you can totally spray paint vents. good luck!

I like the Crystal White counter top. I painted my vents all the time when I lived in Georgia, it seems to keep them fresher looking.
