I make a very similar dessert called “Mud Pie” but instead of the cookie layer, I use toffee bits. Yummy…it’s always a crowd pleaser.

This is going into my favorites. My husband loves oreo cookies.
Nicole says
My husband’s aunt makes this type of dessert for family gatherings, except she uses brownies and instead of oreos she uses Heath chunks. Oh my goodness, everyone LOVES it! Needless to say there are never any leftovers!
Emily says
Any suggestions of what to use instead of Oreos? (someone mentioned toffee bits). I don’t like Oreos 🙂
TheHappyHousewife says
I think you could use any cookie, or even a candy. Experiment. This recipe started as an experiment for me.

The first time I saw this recipe, it had Heath in it which was also very good. I agree, you could probably use many different types of cookies and candy and have a great (albeit very unhealthy) dessert.

Do you think you could just send me a small portion because I know if I make that I will be at least 5 pounds heavier.
Elizabeth says
I’ve found it helpful to make things like this to take when I need a snack for something…I usually keep a small portion aside and make a mini for whoever happens to be staying home, and then, I use the bulk of it for taking. Things like this go over well with most crowds so you usually don’t have to worry too much about leftovers 😉
Allyson says
Oh wow–this looks devine! Could you send me some? 🙂
Christie says
I think I have to make this for my husband for Valentine’s Day!

OH MY, YUMMY, YUMMY!

We call this punchbowl cake around here. It uses the toffee bits instead of Oreos. A guy from our church takes it to potlucks. It doesn’t last very long! 🙂

Looks great! Trifles always look and sound so elegant.

Here’s my version which actually uses cheesecake pudding and instant coffee for added flavor.
Oreo Brownie Trifle
1 package brownie mix (13-inch x 9-inch pan size), plus ingredients to make
cake like brownies
1 cup cold milk
¼ cup instant coffee granules
2 packages (3.4 ounces) instant cheesecake pudding mix
2 containers (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
20 Oreo cookies, coarsely chopped
Prepare and bake brownies according to package directions for cake-like brownies, using a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Cool completely on a wire rack. In a large mixing bowl, beat the milk and instant coffee granules; stir until dissolved. Add pudding mix and 1 and ¼ or ½ container of whipped topping. Whisk until smooth. Fold chopped cookies into the pudding mix. Cut the brownies into 1-in. cubes; place half in a 3-qt. glass trifle bowl. Cover with half of the pudding mixture. Repeat layers. Top with extra whipped topping and sprinkle with chopped Oreos. Refrigerate.
Cherrill says
Oh, Wendy what have you done. Cheesecake girl that is my favorite!

Homeschool conferences are great. I loved going to them years ago when I was homeschooling. A great resource and a great refreshment!!! Don’t buy too much either!! :0) God bless and thanks for sharing the snow photos. Hope you guys melt out soon!! It’s warm here in Oregon and raining…mid 50s as temps.

Thank you for this! I needed an easy recipe to take to a coffee last week and it was a HUGE hit! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sounds like there are a lot of variations of this type of dish. I have two similar recipes that everyone loves except they use french vanilla pudding mixed with the whipped topping and layer it with Oreo or Graham Crackers. I think there end up being three layers when I make those, but it has been awhile since I’ve made them. Thanks for sharing this one! I made it this past week since my husband needed something for a party at work…one small dish for the family, one large dish for the office, a lot fewer calories for the pregnant momma. 😀
