We have been eating spaghetti this way ever since you posted this last year. Tomato sauce doesn’t agree with me very well and the cream in this really helps to tone down the acid. I love the fact that it is a very quick meal that I can have on the table within 30 minutes. Last evening we had to help out our neighbor and in conversation she wanted to know what we were having for supper. When I told her, she asked if Icould bring her some! She loved it too and wants the recipe.

I made this tonight and added ground beef and sliced mushrooms to the sauce. It was delicious! The consensus around here is that it’s better than the usual spaghetti.

This is a simplified version of a real Italian dish. If you want it authentic, saute onions and garlic in a little bit of olive oil till clear, then add tomatoes. My favorite for texture is crushed tomatoes, but you can use whatever generic pasta sauce is handy. Start the sauce first! Once the sauce is simmering (saute on med-low heat and keep it there – it turns out better), then start the noodles.
Italians have a saying that if your sauce isn’t good just cook it longer. Seems to work most of the time.
When you’re ready to drain the noodles, then add the cream – about equal amounts with the tomato. You can mix them all together in the kitchen or just pour the sauce over the noodles on the plates (that’s the more Italian way).
And to get super authentic, when your sauce is simmering, grate in some fresh nutmeg. I know it sounds weird, but it’s AMAZING.
Truth is, I often do something similar to yours – super easy – but when I have time I like to go all out and make my own sauce from scratch. It’ll make you seem all gourmet and people will still love it. 🙂

Amber, you can use half and half if you prefer, i have used either… heavy cream is a little nicer but half and half will work…

I am making this right now!!! And it’s a life saver!!! We went to the ER with a broken wrist last night and things are moving slowly. I forgot to thaw out bread for sandwiches BUT I had everything I needed to make this in no time!!! Even had the pasta already cooked and was going to freeze it but just dumped everything in the sauce pan and whew, lunch is saved!!!!
