Baby Steps to Clean the Bedroom
June 30, 2008 > 22 Comments
I started on my bedroom today. Before I began it was difficult to walk around, but now I can actually enjoy my room. My friend and I painted the walls sage green last week. I love the color, it is so relaxing. I still need to find a new comforter for my bed, I think the red and green look a little too much like Christmas.

I am excited that I finally found a place to hang the window pane. It has been sitting behind my couch for a few months now. Since I don’t have a headboard, I thought the window pane would help dress up the wall behind my bed. My dust ruffle really needs to be ironed… ugh!
There are two boxes under my dresser that I still need to sort and store. I think one is baby items from one of my kids, so it will probably end up in their closet. I just love my dressers they are from my mother-in-law. I had been admiring them for years at her house and was excited when she decided she didn’t want them anymore. Can you see the yellow dresser in the background? That is part of my bathroom… can you believe you can fit a dresser in there? Question for my readers… should I paint the bathroom green too, or should I keep it white?
This is my husband’s dresser. Hopefully he will decide to participate in the Conquer the Clutter challenge
.
As I was taking pictures of my room, I realized that almost everything (furniture/ accessories) in the room was either given to us, purchased at a yard sale, or picked out of the trash. I decided I need to be patient while waiting for a new bedspread. I wanted to rush out and purchase a set this weekend, so my room could be perfect (ha ha), but that wouldn’t be frugal. Since I don’t know exactly what I want, I don’t want to make a quick decision and regret it a year from now, if not sooner.
I still need to organize my closet, but I am excited you can actually walk around my bed now! Check back soon for more clutter updates.

Why not paint the bathroom green as well, but a lighter/darker shade?

I love the new wall color! Green is my all time favorite color.

I love the green in your room – it’s so soothing. Maybe you could put a beadboard in and paint above it green.

Laughed out loud about the Christmas comment. Cleaned my kids’ room this week. I heard several times “Hey! Look what I found. I’ve been looking for that.”

I love this beautiful green. I find my husband is so happy when I clean up the mess in our bedroom, because he can function so much better. Then he jumps on the household fixer up wagon and we get a lot done. Hope the same is true for you!

It looks great! My bedroom is in need of some TLC. Every other room in the house is cleaned on the weekend because other people see those rooms. Unfortunately, all I usually do to our room is close the door. Thank you for the motivation to attempt a master bedroom makeover at my house!

I think I’d leave the bathroom white, but paint the dresser green. That yellow really stands out in there!
Looks nice & calming.

It looks great! I’m sure it will feel much more like a restful escape now that it’s all tidy!

Just take your time in coming up with another color in the bath. Wait till you get your bedding decor (spread/comforter, shams, throw pillows, bedskirt, window treatment, etc) bought, then tackle the bath color and decor. I love the chair in the bedroom! I like the window pane, but I think it needs company… maybe add (scatter) other types of mirrors around the pane?? The antique bedroom set looks terrific with the paint color. Good job.

Wait a mintue… what happen to the headboards?

Great job! Love the color of the walls & I don’t think the bedspread looks all that bad. I hope you find something you like, though.

I love the color of the walls! For your bathroom . . . maybe grab some painter’s tape and make stripes with the green?
Here are some explicit directions I Google-Fu’d: http://www.do-it-yourself-help.com/paint_stripes_on_walls.html

It looks great! Getting organized is always so satisfying. It’s funny how I never run out of things to organize. My family makes sure of that!

The window frame looks great above the bed! Did you replace the glass with mirror?? My foot still hurts from where I kicked the bed frame but it was worth it after seeing your pics. I’d paint with you anyday friend…

Great job – the room looks great! I find it so difficult to clean my bedroom sometimes, but I recently found out about dust mites. Seriously. Thousands of bugs crawling around your bedroom?? No thanks! That was the knowledge I needed to make sure and tidy up my room every day…
See for yourself!
