This looks yummy! This was my fav sandwich at our local Benigan’s. But it closed. I think I will do what they did and put the jelly on the side and dip it! and use raspberry jelly instead! yum yum!

Does anyone remember The Magic Pan restaurant? That’s where I had my first Monte Cristo! Omgosh, it was soooooo delish! This sounds easy enough to make but wonder how The Magic Pan had a crispiness to the bread? Thank you for posting your recipe!

OMG The Magic Pan Monte Christo! That was my first as well. I remember the sandwich being cut in quarters and each quarter was dipped in a batter and deep fried. It was saved with a raspberry jam and sprinkled with icing sugar. Soooo delicious!

The Maic Pan Monte Cristo was dipped in crêpe batter before deep-frying. And I agree it was delicious. The restaurant chain didn’t die because it didn’t offer a quality product, it died because ownership used it as a cash cow. The bread was a yellow (egg?) Texas toast. I still use many of the recipes I learned there as a manager. In general, most are unchanged from what was served at Magic Pan.

This is the original recipe with the grape jelly on the inside.
