I absolutely love the artwork in The Snowy Day.
If you aren’t familiar with Ezra Jack Keats’ artwork it is definitely worth checking out a few of his books from the library. Using a mixture of cut-outs, watercolors, and collage your children can illustrate and write their own “Snowy Day” type book.
In The Snowy Day a little boy, Peter, wakes up to a winter wonderland and spends the day exploring his city. He does all the typical snow day things like make snow angels, trying to save a snowball, and knocking snow from the limbs of a tree.
In our homeschool we used this book for art more than reading, but my kids always enjoyed the story, especially when they didn’t have many snowy days of their own!
