Everyone knows the most delicious brownies are served warm, right from the oven. But, have you ever tried to cut warm brownies? You end up with a mess of brownie goop and crumbs!
The warm brownies stick to the knife and you end up eating them straight out of the pan with a fork. Maybe that’s just me.
A few months ago I learned (from my mom, I think) how to cut warm brownies with almost no mess. Even better you end up with perfect squares so you don’t have to take your brownies to the potluck in the pan. I guess the perfect square this depends on your ability to draw straight lines, but I digress.
The trick is to cut the warm brownies with a plastic knife!
When you use a plastic knife, brownie crumbs don’t stick to it. When the brownie crumbs don’t stick you have nice crumb free squares. I can’t believe I’ve been making brownies for almost 30 years and never knew how to cut them when they were warm.
If you use this technique the plastic knife will melt a little. Especially if the brownies are right out of the oven.
Personally, my favorite way to eat brownies is with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled with chocolate syrup. However brownies are one of the only “sweets” I enjoy so I’ll eat them just about any way they are served.

My cousin taugh me this trick several years ago and I was amazed how well it worked. Now I always keep plastic knives around for this sole purpose!

I’ve been doing this for years and enjoy passing along the trick because no one believes it until they try it. I think one of my Cub Scout moms showed me.

I have melted the tip of a plastic knife before cutting them straight from the ovem. Let them cool a few minutes first!
