No-Spend Challenge in February

Are you up for it? Will you join me?

Let’s face it, the holidays are over, hopefully all the bills have been paid, and now it is time to get back to the savings mentality. For me personally, we are about to remodel our kitchen so we need every extra penny I can find.

The Mission (should you choose to accept it)

Don’t spend money on anything but essentials in February. Nonessentials would be eating out, cute items on the clearance endcap at Target, coffee, entertainment, etc.

The Goal

Save as much money as possible in the month of February to either pay off more debt, save more, or give more.

Why February?

It’s the shortest month of the year so I’m making it easy on myself! I realize it also includes Valentine’s Day and lots of people like to go out and spend crazy month on this day, but I prefer staying in, making an inexpensive Valentine’s dinner and not fighting the crowds.

Even if you don’t need to cut back or save extra money I think these types of challenges are great ways to challenge yourself to be more thrifty. I know when we had no extra money every month I was much more creative in finding fun things to do for free or cheap and much more resourceful with our meals and household supplies. I need to get my thrifty mojo back and I’d love for you to join me.

I’ll be sharing my weekly updates and daily frugal tips here and daily updates no-spend updates on Facebook. And please keep me updated via comments and on Facebook.

I can’t wait to start saving, how about you?

How essential is essential? I can do thrifty for Valentines and we’re talking about a frugal birthday party for our little man, but two of our kiddos want to play baseball/softball this year and sign-ups are next week + all that equipment that we don’t currently own…..it’s starting to sound like a REAL challenge!!!

What a great idea even though we are living with no extras except for cable. Do you count cable? If so do you know if the companies will suspend service for a month without a reconnect fee?

I’m in! My oldest, 12.5 years, and I were talking about doing an essentials only month in February. We can afford for me to send like I do, but the more I save the closer we are to buying a piece of land and starting to build our house. Right now we’re on track to have enough cash saved up to buy the land and build the house in August 2017 but it’d be nice to get ti done sooner.

I am in. I signed up on Facebook too. I need to save money and just stop spending on stupid stuff.

I’m not sure. It would probably be cheaper to keep it through the month than pay to reconnect.

I have been working on spending less this year. Am working on paying down debt. One car is paid off in Sept. so then I can put more on our other car and pay it off quicker. Less spending this month ok…but am probably going out with my sis late Feb. to celebrate our birthdays. So am not gonna cancel that. It’s something we like to do since we are 2.5 hours away from each other. Sorry. But will get a free lunch cuz I’m at a Toastmaster’s meeting with husband that day and a free pancake dinner from denny’s but then husband has to eat…that’s what we do on birthdays!
