We are unexpectedly shopping for a car. I really dislike car shopping, but I’m doing my research so we can find the best deal. While looking for car buying tips I found this great chart on Savings.com.
The best to time buy a car – September and October.
- Bedding – January
- Electronics (particularly TVs) – February
- Grilling materials (avoid spikes in prices for the upcoming summer) – March
- Lawnmowers – April
- Furniture or small kitchen appliances – May
- Gym equipment – June
- End of season clothing – July
- School supplies – August
- Appliances (Labor Day Sale) – September
- Candy (after Halloween sale) – October
- Electronics (Black Friday and Cyber Monday) – November
- Toys (after Christmas) – December
There are even best days to buy certain items, like Tuesday for airline tickets, and best times to buy, like early morning for an oil change.

We found that Nov and Dec can be good for buying cars as well. Especially when the economy is down, and dealers are having a hard time selling last year’s model. Bad weather is actually a good thing – few want to wander a car lot in the rain. I noticed that they said used cars in April. I wonder why that would be?

That may be when the rental companies change over their lot. My Mom saved $10,000 by buying a program car with only 20,000 miles on it. Of course, she paid cash and was able to haggle off some of the paperwork fees, etc. I tend to buy from people we know. Our best deal was a $2,350 police car that we sold 5.5 years later for $1400. Put one set of breaks and a water pump on the car in that 5 years. Overall before insurance and tags the car cost us $26 per month!

ooooo, would love to read about any other car shopping tips you’ve got. We will be getting a new car within the next few months and although I am excited about a new car, I am dreading the purchasing of the car part.
