Make Food a Family Affair

I’m talking about kids in the kitchen on the BornFree Mom site today. Do your kids participate in cooking? In our home cooking is a family affair.

Yep, my kids help. Well, some of them do. Our 13-yo daughter loves to bake. Yesterday, I mentioned that we could use some homemade bread, and the next time I came into the kitchen, I smelled that wonderful yeasty smell of bread dough! Usually her bread turns out better than the bread I make, too! :)

I had some “help” on Sunday, making cookies with our 7-yo son and a 9-yo friend who was over for the afternoon. It’s easier to not have their “help” when they’re younger, but *so* nice when they can take over… :)

Each of our boys (14, 11, and 9) make a meal once a month from start to finish-meal planning, making a grocery list, shopping, and preparing. I think it’s important for boys to know how to make at least a few basic meals before they leave the nest.

And, of course, everyone loves Christmas time and cookie baking. We do that almost every day together :)
