Organizing in the Kitchen With a Recycled Dresser

by Toni Herrbach

I love this idea from Carolyn! Dressers are usually easy to pick up at the thrift store, yard sales, or even on bulk pick up day in your neighborhood. A little work will help transform one into a great storage space for your kitchen (or any other room!)

You can see how Carolyn transformed this dresser into a kitchen storage space on her site, A Purpose Driven Home.

Have you shared a great organizing tip on your website? I’d love to feature it on TheHappyHousewife.com. Submit your Organized in 365 tip.

Love this idea! We use an old dresser as a media cabinet. Our TV, DVR, and Wii are on it and all the accessories are in the drawers. We also have room for the kids craft items and coloring books in the drawers. Much more attractive than a new TV stand!

I am sooo anxious to do this in our house, Heather!! Our girls’ Disney DVD collection is growing out of control. And then add in my husband’s video games and consoles. It’s so much!! I am in the midst of trying to hunt down one I can paint a bright color to brighten up our family room. I am so ready for the extra space!!!

That’s funny… my husband and I just moved an old dresser into our dinning room for organizing.

I’d like more details on how she did this. What did she use for the back?

Lori, our kitchen is sooo tiny. There was a stand alone pantry cabinet that used to be here, but it was too bulky and honestly didn’t hold a lot. So we lined one of our walls with bookshelves and hung curtains for our pantry area. That’s when I decided to try out the dresser here for some extra storage. No wall is spared in my house! 🙂

Great idea. I have a very small kitchen, so of course, I have little space for storage. I am going to put a dresser in my “dining room” (also a very small space). I am also going to put a similar pot rack above the dresser. Thanks for sharing.

I love repurposing old furniture. I bought an old hotel vanity, put it in my kitchen (pass thru bar area) and had a granite top made for the top…. You had to see it to know how fab it looked!
