My House!

by Toni Herrbach

It has been almost two months since we moved into our new house. Since then, we have had over 20 overnight guests, held two birthday parties, and have become a gathering spot for the neighbors. I love having people over, and I want people to feel welcome to stop by my house anytime, even unannounced. I am so thankful that God provided this bigger house for our family. Last weekend we had a birthday party for my husband and we had over 60 guests! My house is not huge, but everyone managed to squeeze in and have a good time (I hope).

I love my kitchen with the island, because it is a gathering spot for many to talk with me while I roll out bread or other goodies. It is also a great place to set food for parties!

I love my 2 porches. I can sit, out of the sun, and enjoy my kids playing in the cul-de-sac. Last week our porch served as an impromptu hair salon as one of our overnight guests gave everyone haircuts on the porch!

I love the playroom because the kids have a place to play and make messes, without disturbing the rest of the house

I love my living room, with the tall bookcase. One little guest last week pulled many books off the shelf and had special reading time with grandparents, parents, and cousins.

I love my new dining room table, that use to sit in my grandfather’s house. I have memories of special dinners at his house, and am creating many new memories of my own.

I love the hydrangea bush in the yard. The kids love smelling the flowers and they enjoy picking them for the house too.

I love my neighborhood because all the families gather outside in the evenings and the kids play together.

I love my house because it doesn’t have this view

or look like this from across the way

I love my house because it is filled with this….

and this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

and this…

and this….

I love my house because it is a gathering place for family and friends. It doesn’t matter how many square feet I might have or what color I painted the walls. What matters are the memories made and the bonds of family and friendship that are strengthened between the walls.

Very nice! I love all of your bookcases, especially the ones with all of the homeschool material 🙂 Thanks for reminding me that it’s family that comes first. It’s something that I’m struggling with right now as I make an important decision for our one and only year here in Montgomery.

What a lovely house! I LOVE your big old dining room table, and I wish my kids had a playroom. They used to when we moved into our house, but then we had too many kids and needed that bedroom. Maybe someday when we finish the basement.

What a happy looking home. I love to see so many smiling faces. I only hope and pray someday our home here will be filled as well!

The first photo looks like it could be taken in my home other than the people! The layout is the same. I love my kitchen with it’s island like counter top. We have a door right where you have two doors, a back door in the same place as yours, a fan in the same place as yours etc. So funny! Our window ledges and baseboards are the same except yours are white and mine are natural wood tone- maple maybe?

I am on the verge of tears after reading this post. I love your house, too. It is warm, inviting and certainly filled with love. I came home from visiting your house with the intention of making mine even more like yours. Thanks for sharing it with me in person and on your blog.

I love your home, and that it’s a home and not just a house. I hope that as our house is completed and we finally have room for guests (we’ve been living in tiny military quarters for years and haven’t had room for visitors, so family just chooses not to visit instead of staying in a hotel), that they will come and we will be building the memories like you are.
