Two Week Setback: Day 22

by Toni Herrbach

Check out our renovation project plan here. I'm sooooooo disappointed. Today we had a handyman come to the house to install trim and see if he could help fix the awful drywall job. The longer we looked at the job the more issues we found. It will take a few days to get the house ready for painting and we have to pay a second person to redo the job. We are also going to put orange peel on ...

Color Palette: Day 20 & 21

by Toni Herrbach

Check out our renovation project plan here. Can you believe it has only been three weeks since we closed on the house? It feels like forever! Today we went over to the house to get it ready for painting this week. We've hired out the painting since we are painting everything from the trim to the ceiling. Our doors and trim were painted with oil based paint, unfortunately. We discussed ...

I fought the wallpaper and the wallpaper won: Day 18 & 19

by Toni Herrbach

Family is Back Together: Day 16 & 17

by Toni Herrbach

Something awesome happened yesterday! These two crazy kids moved to Florida! Unlike her parents they found a cute apartment that is ready to move in tomorrow. No remodeling for them, they are going to be sleeping in their own bed tomorrow night! I raised a smart one for sure. :-) I'm also excited that their apartment is right around the corner from our house. We timed it this afternoon ...

Sanding Walls and Electric: Day 15

by Toni Herrbach

Today we continued to sand the wallpaper walls. The orbital sander is working well, except that the entire house is now covered in sanding dust. Tomorrow I'm going to decide if we continue to sand or go back to scraping. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but we are running short on time so the walls need to get finished one way or another. We are hoping to start painting on ...

Sanding, Wiring, Drywall Repair: Day 13

by Toni Herrbach

From The Happy Husband... We took a short day today because Toni's sister flew in for a short visit. We cleaned up a bit and removed some redundant wiring. The kids swept and used the shop vac to get the leftover thinset and black goo. Toni's dad brought out an orbital sander for the walls. It cut through the glue and left a smooth surface for painting. Well see if it looks good enough for the ...
