Arm & Hammer Baking Soda

by Toni Herrbach

This month I’m reviewing Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. When I found out I was reviewing baking soda I was excited because I go through at least a box every two months, if not sooner. Arm & Hammer baking soda has been a familiar product in my home and in my mom’s home forever!

Here’s what I like about Arm & Hammer baking soda, it is cheap and it has about 1,000 uses. I use it almost every day in my cooking, cleaning, and in a pinch have brushed my teeth with it (although that is not my favorite use).

The most common use for baking soda is in baking where it acts as a leavening agent, but there are so many other uses for baking soda it is a must have for your pantry!

Did you know that baking soda has a long shelf life? I go through it pretty, but I know not everyone is making pancakes for nine twice a week.

It is a good idea to seal baking soda in an airtight container because it absorbs odors. Storing it this way will increase the shelf life.

If you aren’t sure if your baking soda is still good you can always test it by mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with several tablespoons of vinegar.  If it bubbles it is still good.

This month I’ll be sharing with you some of my favorite uses for baking soda and a few uncommon uses I’ve found over the years.

What is your favorite use for baking soda?

I fill a small bowl with baking soda and cover the bowl with dryer sheet that is secured with a rubberband. It’s placed in my kids hamper. Helps keep the smell down to a dull roar.
