Today was farm day. In case you missed it, a few weeks ago I got my brain working again and realized that in order for me to not lose my mind during this deployment I needed some help with the kids. So once a week my younger kids go to the farm to play, make snow ice cream, sit by the fire, get help with their math, eat cookies, and have a fabulous time. It's funny that the older you get the ...
Deployment Day #84
Today it snowed. My family has a love/ hate relationship with the snow. I hate it, everyone else loves it. I like looking at snow, but I don't like the fact that my kids spend the entire day going outside/ inside and using up every pair of socks and gloves trying to stay warm. I do like that my children are old enough to make hot chocolate, and share a mug with me. We tried ...
Deployment Day #83
Here's something I've learned about living somewhere north of Florida. When the weather is decent, send the kids outside. Today was one of those days. I realized around noon that it was supposed to reach a balmy 55 degrees and declared the rest of the day outside day! I knew that snow was forecasted for the rest of the week and in Maryland we don't usually get nice, pretty, fun to play in snow. ...
Deployment Day #82
Our church has two services. One at 9am and one at 11:15. We prefer the 9am because if we go to the 11:15 service it feels like dinnertime by the time we are finished. (Not really- but that's how it feels) It is really hard (almost impossible) to get my late sleepers up for the early service, especially when I'm by myself. We went to the late service today because I didn't even want to try to ...
Deployment Day #81
Today we cleaned and did school. I'm not a big fan of Saturday school, I know one of the benefits of homeschooling is flexibility, but I personally like a day off of doing homeschool. I'm also not a big fan of cleaning, but I like a clean house so that's what we did today. Today was rather boring. I haven't had boring in a long time. It felt good. Apparently I need to turn the heat ...
Deployment Day #80
Today was a sunny 44 degrees so my kids wanted to play outside all day in the "hot" weather. I'm learning to go with it on these days instead of forcing them inside for school. They played outside until the sun went down and then came in and did school work until bedtime. For a few kids this worked really well. For one of them, this was a terrible idea. When I was in Tampa someone asked me ...
