Over the past year I’ve worked with the wonderful folks at Together Counts to share ideas on how to get active with your kids.
According to the CDC, Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years. This is a sad trend in our country and as parents we have the ability and resources to help make lifelong changes for good in our children’s lives.
I believe that one of the best ways to help your kids make healthy choices when it comes to diet and exercise is to make those same healthy choices yourselves. Kids want to be like their parents, especially when they are young, so if you aren’t making healthy choices for yourself it is hard to expect your children to make them without you.
Even if this is an area you’ve neglected with your family, or needs improvement in your own life, it isn’t too late. Today is always the best day to get started!
Need help getting started, here are a few ideas.
- Just because many of us are digging out of the latest snow storm doesn’t mean you can’t get fit. Learn how to beat the winter blues and enjoy the rest of winter.
- What you eat is as important as how much you move. Help curb those picky eater tendencies by involving your kids in meal planning and grocery shopping.
- My family is busy, just like yours, but it is important to stay balanced by incorporate physical activity and healthy eating into our daily routines.
- If you are a homeschooler don’t miss out on the extra opportunities to incorporate physical activities into your daily homeschool routine. No matter how old the kids, there’s something for everyone.
- Getting away and getting active doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Explore your city with a staycation and get active while doing it!
