We started the day with donuts and then moved straight to the gifts. I am not sure how this started, but my kids always want to open their presents first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-748\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"424\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He played with his gifts all morning (you get your birthday off of school at our house), and then decided on tacos for lunch. I always make my taco meat with ground turkey, it is cheaper and tastes better (in my opinion).<\/p>\n<p>I made an executive decision and we had cake and ice cream for dinner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0008.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-739\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0008.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"424\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Apparently when you turn eight, you are old enough to light the match and light your own birthday candles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0015.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-740\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0015.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"443\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I thought he did a good job of placing the candles in the cake.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0016.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-741\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0016.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After our dinner of cake and ice cream we had popcorn for dessert. I also found out that when you turn eight you can cook popcorn on the stove.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0024.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-742\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/dscf0024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"435\" height=\"326\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He bought this popcorn on our way home from Florida with money from his grandfather.<\/p>\n<p>After the popcorn, the kids and dad went to the pool while I stayed home and cleaned the dirty knife from the cake.<\/p>\n<p>They took hot baths after swimming and then it was time for a very happy birthday ending.
