This milk fireworks experiment does just that.<\/p>\n<p>All you need to complete this experiment is milk and food coloring. You probably have both of them in your kitchen right now.<\/p>\n<h2>Milk Fireworks Experiment<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22463\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/dilultion-and-concentration.jpg\" alt=\"dilultion and concentration\" width=\"406\" height=\"542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/dilultion-and-concentration.jpg 406w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/dilultion-and-concentration-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 406px) 100vw, 406px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Supplies<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Baking dish (9&#215;9 pan works best)<\/li>\n<li>Milk<\/li>\n<li>Food coloring<\/li>\n<li>Dish soap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Make sure you use the standard <a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2LSlLSN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">food coloring<\/a> instead of the gel food coloring. The gel will not drop into the dish.<\/p>\n<p>Pour the milk into the baking dish. You want to make sure the entire bottom of the dish is covered about 1\/2 an inch.<\/p>\n<p>Have the kids put a small amount of food coloring into the milk dish. Then dilute the food coloring and add the diluted mixture to the dish.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Kids are intrigued by the shades of colors that result when different dilutions of food coloring are dropped into a shallow pan of milk.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This is a good way to teach dilution and concentration without the kids even knowing it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22464\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/milk-fireworks.jpg\" alt=\"milk fireworks\" width=\"374\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/milk-fireworks.jpg 374w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/milk-fireworks-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Dropping different colors of food coloring in a shallow pan of milk and then rippling the water or dropping in dish detergent makes the colors spread and explode. My kids call it \u201cmilk fireworks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I allow the kids to experiment with stirring, splashing, and dropping the food coloring from different heights to see what effects they have on the pattern of the colors.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22465\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/colormixing.jpg\" alt=\"color mixing\" width=\"374\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/colormixing.jpg 374w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2013\/06\/colormixing-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This project is also good to teach color mixing. Does yellow and blue really make green?<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Between each milk fireworks experiment you&#8217;ll want to change out the milk, or mix up the milk and food coloring.
