Talk Like a Pirate Day. \u00a0Waffle Day. \u00a0Fun days can also be national holidays and historical events.<\/p>\n<h3>Where can I find fun days, national holidays, and historical events?<\/h3>\n<p>Check a few different websites to get an idea of what&#8217;s happening. \u00a0I do not celebrate (nor approve) every single day they list because of our faith differences. \u00a0Each family should decide what is appropriate for them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/holidayinsights.com\/moreholidays\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Holiday Insights<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/homeschooling.about.com\/cs\/unitssubjhol\/a\/fundays\" target=\"_blank\">About.com &#8211; Fundays<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.on-this-day.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Onthisday.com<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\" target=\"_blank\">This Day in\u00a0History<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How can I plan for fun days?<\/h3>\n<p>The week or two before each month, sit down with a blank calendar and write down the fun days, national holidays, and significant historical days. \u00a0If planning a whole month makes you a little uncomfortable, plan one each week. \u00a0I try to pick the days I know the boys would be most interested in as well as add some educational ones.<\/p>\n<p>Make a list of books to grab from the library, and search Pinterest for any crafts or activities you can incorporate to make the day memorable. \u00a0Anything hands-on is always a plus in our home! \u00a0Some fun days have turned into play doh sculpting, lego constructions, or the topic of a new short story.<\/p>\n<p>If you have older students, consider purchasing an <em>On This Day In History<\/em>\u00a0book, or <a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/today-in-history-lite\/id312028719?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\">Today in History <\/a>app. \u00a0Let them tell you what happened every morning. \u00a0Or allow them to work on a small unit study to present at the end of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Homeschool is fun, so enjoy fun days!<\/p>\n<h3>Planning Resources<\/h3>\n<p>The Well Planned Day Family Homeschool Planner would be very useful in planning fun days. \u00a0The <a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/hedua.com\/cart\/index.php\/wpd\/2012-2013-planners.html?acc=72b32a1f754ba1c09b3695e0cb6cde7f\" target=\"_blank\">2012-2013 planner<\/a> is half price. \u00a0Or, get ready for next year with the<a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/hedua.com\/cart\/index.php\/wpd\/2013-2014-planners.html?acc=72b32a1f754ba1c09b3695e0cb6cde7f\" target=\"_blank\"> 2013\/2014 planner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/author\/stef\/\">More posts from Stef<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following is a post from contributing writer\u00a0Stef.
