{"id":20997,"date":"2012-12-28T09:00:23","date_gmt":"2012-12-28T14:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/?p=20997"},"modified":"2015-06-11T15:56:59","modified_gmt":"2015-06-11T19:56:59","slug":"goal-setting-with-homeschoolers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/goal-setting-with-homeschoolers\/","title":{"rendered":"Goal Setting with Homeschoolers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The following is a post from contributing writer\u00a0Stef.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After Christmas we like to sit down and have a discussion with our boys about<strong> goal setting<\/strong>. \u00a0It is important as a family that we show our children we are setting goals and plan to help keep each other\u00a0accountable. \u00a0We want to show our children that as a family &#8211; a team &#8211; we need everyone&#8217;s help.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2012\/12\/rsz_picnic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21000\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2012\/12\/rsz_picnic.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2012\/12\/rsz_picnic.jpg 400w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/files\/2012\/12\/rsz_picnic-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you have yet to make resolutions or goals\u00a0as a family, you might consider the following ideas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>physical improvement &#8211; health \/ wellness<\/li>\n<li>mental improvement &#8211; education \/ intellect<\/li>\n<li>self-improvement &#8211; hobby \/sport<\/li>\n<li>spiritual improvement &#8211; faith<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Make sure you are balanced in each area<\/strong>. \u00a0If you can only list one goal for each category &#8211; only list one. \u00a0Children will obviously need some help with ideas. More PE, less Wii, more scripture memorization, less sugary snacks, extra 15 minutes of karate practice daily, reading before television, a new chore chart, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Once you fill each category consider adding a time frame.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the next 30 days I want to &#8230;<\/li>\n<li>In the next 60 days I want to have &#8230;<\/li>\n<li>In the next 90 days I want to have &#8230;<\/li>\n<li>By the end of this year I want to have &#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Younger children have a hard time thinking <em>&#8220;by the end of the year,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0but honestly don&#8217;t we all?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do not allow a time commitment to discourage anyone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Post your goals in the home.<\/p>\n<p>Plan a special (fun) meal one night each month for discussion and accountability night. \u00a0This is the perfect time to show grace and lift one another up! \u00a0Goal setting with homeschoolers\u00a0leads to great discussions, time for encouragement, and also wonderful praise reports!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/author\/stef\/\">More posts from Stef<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following is a post from contributing writer\u00a0Stef.
