{"id":17522,"date":"2011-03-22T06:00:51","date_gmt":"2011-03-22T10:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/?p=17522"},"modified":"2015-06-11T16:22:45","modified_gmt":"2015-06-11T20:22:45","slug":"homeschooling-under-stress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/homeschool\/homeschooling-under-stress\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeschooling Under Stress"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/__TFNkDjqJbg\/TUcIu0mGXBI\/AAAAAAAABUU\/EeHfMWb8bqU\/s1600\/stress_chicken_bird_326262_l.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/__TFNkDjqJbg\/TUcIu0mGXBI\/AAAAAAAABUU\/EeHfMWb8bqU\/s320\/stress_chicken_bird_326262_l.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Stress is a canker. <\/strong> It not only rots your insides but it also damages little hearts who are on the receiving end of it. \u00a0I believe there are two types of stress &#8211; voluntary and involuntary stress. \u00a0Voluntary stress usually flares when my hands are involved. \u00a0Involuntary stress usually comes into the house through situations we have no control over.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Regardless how the stress forms when it comes time to sit down at the table and teach pre-algebra, handwriting, or reading &#8230; it is nearly impossible to pull off a successful lesson without a quick pulse, agitated heart, or bubbling anger.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Before you entertain thoughts of throwing in the homeschool towel<\/strong>, or driving up to the closest public school and threatening to leave your son there (not because anyone writing this post has done anything remotely close to that &#8211; ever &#8230; <em>maybe<\/em> .. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">just once<\/span>) &#8230; there are <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>few simple things<\/strong> we can do to reduce the tension in our homes when we&#8217;re feeling <em>overly<\/em> stressed.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>1.\u00a0Don&#8217;t do it.<\/strong> Take the day off &#8211; play hookie. \u00a0<strong>No child needs the Hulk teaching fractions!<\/strong> Get outside, breathe some fresh air, go for a walk (it&#8217;s p.e.) &#8211; sometimes pushing away from the school supplies can do wonders. \u00a0Ever notice cultures who celebrate the siesta have lower heart attack rates than Americans?<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>2. Rearrange<\/strong>. \u00a0School in the afternoon, on the couch, or outside &#8211; which is our favorite. \u00a0<strong>Change the day up to school when you are not feeling the stress.<\/strong> You do not have to stick to someone else&#8217;s schedule. \u00a0Have a child read to you while you wash the evening dishes &#8211; another favorite. \u00a0Discuss assignments rather than fill in the 15th worksheet for the day. \u00a0<strong>Homeschooling is beautiful because it is flexible<\/strong>.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>3. Share it.<\/strong> I firmly believe our backs were not made to carry heavy burdens. \u00a0<strong>Talk to a friend you trust;\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">do not blast it online.<\/span> <\/strong> Share what is weighing you down &#8211; most times another perspective, encouragement, skype emoticon, or joke always lightens my heart.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>4. Turn it up.<\/strong> There is something about music that transformers our feelings. \u00a0I believe that&#8217;s one reason why silent films are no longer popular. \u00a0<strong>Find what you like and turn it up<\/strong>. \u00a0Most children love music too &#8211; take a break and dance together, or take a load off and enjoy it. \u00a0Let it wash over you and calm those nerves. \u00a0It might lead to a school lesson on Bach! \u00a0Slow dance with your spouse again right there in the kitchen! <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>5. Exercise.<\/strong> I hate exercise, but I always feel great after it&#8217;s done. \u00a0<strong>Exercise does wonders for releasing tension.<\/strong> Can&#8217;t take that kickboxing class? \u00a0Take the kids to the tennis courts, swim, run around the house, go for a bike ride, take a walk with the whole family, go sledding, do 20 jumping jacks together, or invest in an exercise dvd. Just get moving! <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>6. Laugh<\/strong>. \u00a0Laughter is an antidote for stress. \u00a0&#8220;<span style=\"color: #001320;\"><em>She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can\u00a0laugh\u00a0at the days to come<\/em><\/span>&#8221; Proverbs 31:25. \u00a0Keep a picture of something that always makes you smile or have easy access to home movies! \u00a0Watch a comedian on You Tube, start a tickle fight with your children. \u00a0<strong>Literally LOL &#8211; it&#8217;s okay, do it often! \u00a0You need it!<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">During those stressful days <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">we all encounter<\/span> I encourage you to put on your <strong>long term bifocals<\/strong> and see this is a small season of the big picture. \u00a0Do not multiply your stress by comparing yourself to Suzie NeverStressful, (the homeschooling champ in your co-op). \u00a0Be proactive in addressing stress and making efforts of getting rid of it before losing your cool with your kids! \u00a0I regret that my son has seen me act out of control because I allowed my stress to overwhelm me.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Most importantly<\/strong> &#8211; keep open lines of communication with your spouse and keep praying!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">photocredit &#8211; flickr<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stress is a canker.
