I had seen cute lap desks at the crafting store, but decided I didn&#8217;t want to pay that much for one. Surely I could turn this orphaned lid into a comfy lap desk.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/lapdesk.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24787\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/lapdesk.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/lapdesk.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/lapdesk-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Supplies Needed<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Lid from a plastic tub<\/li>\n<li>Thick foam rectangle (at least the size of your lid)<\/li>\n<li>Fabric (big enough to cover the top and sides of the foam with a few inches overlapping the back)<\/li>\n<li>Tacky glue (I used &#8220;<a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=Fast%20Grab%20Tacky%20Glue&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;tag=thehaphou-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps\" target=\"_blank\">Fast Grab Tacky Glue<\/a>&#8221; because it is thicker and holds &#8220;hard to hold&#8221; items)<\/li>\n<li>Straight pins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Instructions<\/h4>\n<p><strong>1. Trace the shape of the lid onto the foam.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/tracing-foam.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24804\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/tracing-foam.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/tracing-foam.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/tracing-foam-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>2. Trim foam and round the corners<\/strong> so that it fits nicely onto the bottom of the lid. Cut fabric to cover foam.<\/strong> The fabric should cover the top and sides and overlap the back of the foam an inch or two.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/cutfabric.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24784\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/cutfabric.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/cutfabric.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/cutfabric-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>4. Lay the foam down on the back side of the fabric.<\/strong> Put tacky glue on the back edge of the foam.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/glueedge.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24786\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/glueedge.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/glueedge.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/glueedge-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>5. Pull the sides of the fabric up and fold<\/strong> onto the backside of the foam. Pin in place. Continue doing this to all four edges of the fabric. Make sure the fabric is pulled taunt and is held securely in place with the pins.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/pinning.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24788\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/pinning.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/pinning.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/pinning-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>6. Trim any excess fabric from the corners.<\/strong> Let glue dry several hours.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/trimcorners.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24791\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/trimcorners.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/trimcorners.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/12\/trimcorners-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>7. Remove pins after glue is dry.<\/strong> Put glue all around the edge of the fabric.
