But, what are you going to do?\u00a0Well, I&#8217;ll tell you. <strong><em>You can make your own reusable swiffer cloths!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you have any fleece fabric lying around? What about a fleece blanket you don&#8217;t use anymore? You can cut the fleece with a rotary cutter or scissors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth13.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21620\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth13.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth13-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s all there is to it. In a year that would be approximately $108 for something that I would just throw away. Here&#8217;s how to make your own.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Reusable Swiffer Wet Jet Cloth<\/h2>\n<h4>Supplies<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Hand towel or terry cloth fabric<\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2DvNWD5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3\/8 inch elastic<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Sewing Machine<\/li>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Thread<\/li>\n<li>Pins<\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2qAMS8r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rotary Cutter<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Ruler<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Instructions<\/h4>\n<p>1. Cut a hand towel into two pieces that are 9 inches by 12 inches. Pin the two pieces of terry cloth, right sides together, all the way around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth10.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21617\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth10.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth10-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>4. Using a 1\/4 inch seam allowance sew around the towels. Leave a 2 inch opening for turning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth9.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21616\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth9.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth9-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>5. Turn the towels right side out and sew around the whole thing again using a 5\/8 seam allowance.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to keep that 2 inch opening from step 4. This second seam creates a casing for the elastic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth8.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21615\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth8.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth8-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>6. Attach a safety pin to the 3\/8 inch elastic. I don&#8217;t have an exact measurement on the elastic, but I think 1 yard would be more than plenty. It is probably only 1\/2 a yard, but it is better to be safe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21614\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth7.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth7-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>7. Thread the elastic through the casing. Ease the elastic through the opening and thread it through the casing until it comes out at the opening.<\/p>\n<p>You should have both ends of the elastic at the opening. Place one end of the elastic on top of the other end. You won&#8217;t even need to poke the ends into the holes of the Swiffer.<\/p>\n<p>I like to use this kind of cloth for wet mopping. I simply run it under water, wring it out, and then slip it on my Swiffer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21608\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2012\/05\/swiffer-cloth1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you were to purchase the wet disposable cloths at the store they are approximately $4.50 for 12. Even if I only use 1 package a month, that is still over $50 a year for something that gets thrown away. I think spending 10 minutes to make my own is worth it to save that much money.<\/p>\n<p>To wash either of the reusable swiffer cloths, simply wash them with a load of towels. No special care is needed.<\/p>\n<p>If you have one of the mops that has the solution in it, I found that it is over $5 for a bottle. If you want a frugal and green option I would recommend using white vinegar either in a 50\/50 mix with water or by itself.<\/p>\n<p>Do you have a Swiffer?
