<\/a><\/p>\nMost people might not need NEW doors but just need an updated look.\u00a0 Look at how we glazed kitchen cabinets<\/a> <\/strong>before we decided to expand our kitchen.\u00a0 It was easy, fast, and cheap but without a “cheap” look.\u00a0 For the rest of us – who NEED to start from scratch,\u00a0 here are some instructions.<\/p>\n Please note:\u00a0<\/strong> We are not professionals.\u00a0 We do what works for us.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Measure, Measure, and Measure again.<\/strong><\/p>\n Measure your opening for your cabinet door.\u00a0 We allowed an 1\/8 inch gap (on all sides) between the door and the opening. If you are having trouble understanding – go look at a hardware store and look at their cabinets.\u00a0 Studying other’s work will give insight and understanding.<\/p>\n For a totally frugal project call around and get prices for wood.\u00a0 Cabinet wood varies from place to place.<\/p>\n Even when you do find an inexpensive price look at each piece of wood.\u00a0 Some could be warped or split in shipping.\u00a0 We had to really seek good material on our last shopping trip.<\/p>\n There are two ways to cut wood.<\/p>\n The clamp<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 It acts like an extra hand.<\/p>\n A chalk box<\/strong><\/a> that makes a blue chalk line.\u00a0 It makes perfect lines with a pop of string.\u00a0 I love playing with these things!<\/p>\n A circular saw<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong>This tool can be used for so many other projects.\u00a0 If you are a DIYer it would be worth the expense to add one to your collection.<\/p>\n An extra 1 x 2 board.\u00a0 It also serves as a guide or “fence” when cutting a straight line.<\/p>\n Now it is time to cut.\u00a0 You might want to measure one more time.\u00a0 I mean it.\u00a0 It is NOT wasting time to be sure. Now your door needs some trim. There are different thoughts on trim.<\/p>\n Make a notch in your trim wood to fit around the door.\u00a0 That is an easy sentence to write but not so easy to make.\u00a0 If you are unsure of this process, please, please, please ask questions at your local hardware store.\u00a0 Mistakes can cost a lot of money.<\/p>\n Building your own cabinet doors will save you a lot of money, however I wouldn’t recommend it for your first DIY project.<\/p>\n Make sure you have the proper tools and safety precautions before attempting this project.
