Last week we were studying the layers of the earth and we made a volcano erupt in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>It is a very simple experiment and your kids can help because it is totally safe!<\/p>\n<p>Supplies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Glass<\/li>\n<li>Baking Soda<\/li>\n<li>Vinegar<\/li>\n<li>Red Food Coloring<\/li>\n<li>Baking Sheet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Set the glass on an empty baking sheet. Fill the glass half full with vinegar. Add enough red food coloring to turn the water red. Have the kids sprinkle in some baking soda and stand back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2011\/09\/baking-soda-volcano.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18803\" title=\"baking soda volcano\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2011\/09\/baking-soda-volcano.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll have a wonderful fizzy explosion! You can keep adding baking soda for continuous explosions for several minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Neither baking soda or vinegar is harmful to children so this is an experiment they can conduct all by themselves!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some other fun baking soda science experiments.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.exploratorium.edu\/science_explorer\/bubblebomb.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bubble Bomb<\/a>: <\/strong><em>Same idea as the volcano but in a plastic baggie, so it actually explodes. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencebob.com\/blog\/?tag=baking-soda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bubble Volcano:<\/a> <\/strong><em>Similar to our volcano but with bubbles, definitely fun for the little kids. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wPz9uIM5oXY&amp;feature=player_embedded\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fizz Inflator: <\/a><\/strong><em>Inflate a ballon using only vinegar and baking soda.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I wrap up my series on baking soda I want to share with you my favorite use for baking soda, science experiments!
