Little black ants were swarming all over my bathroom counter. I needed to get rid of black ants!<\/p>\n<p>After trying to wipe them up, I realized I was losing the battle. So, I did what any tech savvy housewife would do and asked my<a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/thehappyhousewife\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Facebook friends<\/a> how to get rid of these ants!<\/p>\n<p>I received tons of helpful pest control advice, including the following ideas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/how-to-get-rid-of-ants-with-three-ingredients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Borax ant killer\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Honey and Borax<\/li>\n<li>Salt sprinkled where you see them.<\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=peppermint%20oil&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;tag=thehaphou-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Peppermint oil<\/a> on a cotton ball where you see them.<\/li>\n<li>Cayenne pepper<\/li>\n<li>Homemade vinegar cleaner<\/li>\n<li>Cinnamon<\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2OxQ02l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Terro Ant Liquid<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Splenda<\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2OCTwbC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Melaleuca PreSpot<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2OCUNzq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bay Leaves<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>My Cinnamon Experiment<\/h3>\n<p>Since I had a few <a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2xXfble\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cinnamon sticks<\/a> leftover from Christmas I decided to place a few in my bathroom. A few hours later all the yucky ant friends were gone.<\/p>\n<p>I was surprised that it worked, but after researching it a bit I found out that ants dislike powder (I used sticks, so obviously this wasn&#8217;t the reason) and that they don&#8217;t like the smell.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2011\/04\/Screen-shot-2011-04-11-at-3.46.38-PM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17751\" title=\"repelling black ants\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/files\/2011\/04\/Screen-shot-2011-04-11-at-3.46.38-PM-300x203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I noticed that a few days later I had one or two ants back in my bathroom. I&#8217;m going to put some <a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2yeLzPY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cinnamon powder<\/a> down tonight and see if that keeps them away for a while.<\/p>\n<p>I also tried the bay leaves, but they didn&#8217;t work as well. It could have been because the<a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2OCUNzq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> jar of bay leaves<\/a> I had was very old.<\/p>\n<h3>Black Ant Update<\/h3>\n<p>The cinnamon powder worked much better than the cinnamon sticks, however it made quite a mess and when I discovered ants in my pantry. The cinnamon powder was not a great any killer, because my kids kept walking through the powder.<\/p>\n<p>This made a gigantic mess in my pantry and kitchen and cinnamon powder is not easy to clean up once it&#8217;s mixed with dirt and other kitchen debris.<\/p>\n<p>I have since discovered this <a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/how-to-get-rid-of-ants-with-three-ingredients\/\">simple way to get rid of ants<\/a> using a homemade solution. You might have these ingredients in your home already and this mixture has helped me <a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/home-management\/how-to-get-rid-of-ants-with-three-ingredients\/\">get rid of ants<\/a> for years.<\/p>\n<p>Remember once you remove the ants from your home, seal up windows and entry areas with caulk.
