When I lived up north, I could store my butter on the counter in a <a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2P7iV9O\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">butter crock<\/a>. But now that I live in the south it is too warm to store butter on the counter.<\/p>\n<p>I found out the hard way that melted butter is not the same as &#8220;softened butter&#8221; in recipes.<\/p>\n<p>A few years ago my sister showed me this simple tip to quickly soften butter when you are baking.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30653\" src=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/BLG-A155-3_How-to-Quickly-Soften-Butter.jpg\" alt=\"How to quickly soften butter\" width=\"733\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/BLG-A155-3_How-to-Quickly-Soften-Butter.jpg 733w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/BLG-A155-3_How-to-Quickly-Soften-Butter-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/BLG-A155-3_How-to-Quickly-Soften-Butter-600x409.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 733px) 100vw, 733px\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>How to Quickly Soften Butter<\/h1>\n<p>Take a stick of butter (or however much butter you need for the recipe) and place it in a Ziploc bag.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27809\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/butter.jpg\" alt=\"butter\" width=\"425\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/butter.jpg 425w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/butter-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 425px) 100vw, 425px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fill a bowl or container with warm water. Place the butter in the Ziploc bag in the warm water.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/IMG_4865.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14668\" title=\"soften butter\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/IMG_4865.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"478\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/IMG_4865.jpg 478w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/11\/IMG_4865-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 478px) 100vw, 478px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over the years I&#8217;ve found that my <a target = \"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2SjXdBw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">pyrex measuring cup<\/a> is just the right size for a stick of butter.<\/p>\n<p>In a few minutes you will have soft butter that is easy to spread or use in a recipe. The key to getting the butter soft, but not melted is to use warm water, not hot.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t recommend heating the water in the microwave because it will be too hot and melt the butter.
