They also go on sale frequently and are a great grocery budget stretcher. Last week when I found potatoes on sale at Safeway for $2 for 10 pounds, I stocked up!<\/p>\n<p>I had not had any trouble freezing potatoes. If I know I am going to freeze mashed potatoes I make them a little firmer than normal since frozen mashed potatoes can be a runny. I reheat, add a little milk and they taste great!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/5812.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"bulk potatoes\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/5812.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When it was time to process the potatoes I did it in two steps. The first day I peeled most of the potatoes. I kept some aside for loaded baked potatoes, <a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/grilled-potatoes\/\" rel=\"false\">grilled potatoes<\/a>, and potato skins, but I peeled the rest. I stored the potatoes in the fridge overnight in a bowl of water. I was a little worried the potatoes would turn brown but they didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_3346.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"grilled potatoes\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_3346-1024x639.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"509\" height=\"317\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>grilled potatoes<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The next day I made:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/beautyandbedlam.com\/make-ahead-mashed-potatoes-freezer-mashed-potatoes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Jen&#8217;s Freezer Mashed Potatoes<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a target = \"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/heavenlyhomemakers.com\/make-your-own-frozen-hashbrowns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\">Laura&#8217;s Frozen Hashbrowns<\/a><\/strong> (seriously these are so good and easy!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/a7c3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12067 aligncenter\" title=\"frozen hashbrowns\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/a7c3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/06\/a7c3.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/06\/a7c3-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cooked Potatoes and Broth for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/got-ham\/\" rel=\"false\">Mel&#8217;s Potato Soup<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/shepherds-pie\/\" rel=\"false\">Shepherd&#8217;s Pie<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/skillet-potatoes\" rel=\"false\">Skillet Potatoes<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/\/i533.photobucket.com\/albums\/ee336\/anderbach\/January%202009%20Blog\/IMG_1905.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"513\" height=\"341\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Basic Mashed Potatoes <\/strong>(these were frozen in quart sized bags to use in <a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/bee-rocks\/\" rel=\"false\">Bee Rocks<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/no-mess-potato-pancakes\/\" rel=\"false\">Potato Pancakes<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baked Potato Chips <\/strong>(Total fail- maybe next time I should consult a recipe before I try it!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/f180.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12063 aligncenter\" title=\"baked potato chips\" src=\"\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/f180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/06\/f180.jpg 500w, https:\/\/thehappyhousewife.com\/cooking\/files\/2010\/06\/f180-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">By the end of the afternoon I was totally sick of potatoes, but I was pleased with how much food I made for $4 plus extra ingredients. Any potato sickness I had disappeared when I tasted Laura&#8217;s hashbrowns. I always thought hashbrowns were difficult to make- wrong!
