Where is your Dirt Hiding?

As I am sure everyone knows by now, we moved last week. If you don’t know this, then you just happened to miss a week of my blog complaining, and that is probably better for you anyway.
Where is your Dirt Hiding?

If you were a visitor in my old house you would probably think I am a neat and orderly person. Usually toys are put away, you will not see dishes in the sink, and all the beds are made. In fact, I thought I was a pretty neat and orderly person too, until they started moving the furniture. The dust, dirt, toys, and even little unidentified objects that were behind every piece of furniture in my house was unbelievable. I was embarrassed that the movers saw such filth in my home. Then I started thinking about my life. Around others I put on my very best. All the dirt and filth that is really in my heart I keep hidden. All my failures and insecurities are swept under the rug.

Seeing this real dirt, helped me to realize that I need to be real with the people who know me and the people who don’t, like those who read my blog. I love to save money but I also love to eat at Outback. I love my kids and love homeschooling, but there are some days I would just like to sit in my closet with a flashlight and a book. I grind my own wheat and bake my own bread, but I love Lucky Charms and chocolate donuts. We are debt free, but for years we made the same mistakes as many of my readers today. There are even some days when I don’t read my bible :(.

I am so thankful for this move because it helped me to see the person I really am, a sinner, saved by grace. I am nothing without Him, and anything that I have achieved in my life is because of Him.

Romans 12:2-3

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

  3. A few years ago, our house flooded and we had to replace all the flooring, I quickly found my dirty places! I went through the exact same revelation. I’m not perfect but I’m me and I’m a good person. No matter if all my dog fur is hiding under my couch.
