Another Sunday devotional from a friend.
I found an old prayer from a book given to me by a family friend a long time ago. It comes from the Book of Common Prayer and goes like this:
Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Like many, I have often wondered about the will of God. At times it seems such a great mystery. This morning however, I am inclined to believe differently. God’s will is clearly spelled out in His Word.
Micah 6:8 says this, He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.
There are countless other verses which also speak about His will. What a blessing to know that we do not have to live in doubt about what He expects from us. All we need to do is go to His Word! There lies our true joy and true treasures. It is there we find an endless trove of promises and encouragement to steady us in the storms of this life. It is a gift to be able to go there. So, go there often my friend, and hold fast to that which never shifts, changes, or comes to an end.
