Update on Toni and Baby Cora

Cora Jane arrived this morning at 10:01 a.m. weighing in at 5 pounds 4 ounces! The delivery went well, but Toni is understandably tired. She’s doing her best to rest right now.

Baby Cora was born four weeks early, so her lungs are still a bit underdeveloped. Consequently, she’s been moved to the NICU because she’s having a little trouble breathing. Please pray that Cora’s breathing improves and that God would grant Toni and her husband comfort during this stressful time, especially since the NICU is a new experience for them.

Your prayers are coveted.

Joy Miller (a friend of Toni’s)

I’ve had two of my babes in the NICU (my 5yr old and 11 moth old were both 3 weeks early and had to spend time in there), so I can relate to the stress…but both are now healthy active and silly kids! You’d never know they were premature.

Good thoughts and prayers winging their way to Cora Jane.

  57. Both my boys spent quite awhile in the hospital in NICU. My first one was 5 weeks early and my other one was even earlier. All it takes is time. Their lungs developed just fine, and the scariest part is all the wires. They could get a little jandice, but that’s not a big deal. Time and prayers will do the trick and she’ll be home in no time. It will give you a little time to get recovered while she’s being cared for by professionals that do this everyday.
    ~Kim

  70. Becky says:

Toni, I am praying for you and your little Cora. Congratulations!! Every child is so precious!!
My little Micah was born at 32 weeks last summer and spent 23 days in the NICU, then came home on the apnea/brady monitor, due to continued heart rate drifts and breathing irregularities. The whole bedrest/NICU experience grew me in ways I never would wish on anyone, but looking back, my heart is filled with gratitude to God for His care and protection over my life and my son’s life. I’m praying that God’s grace and His peace will be unbelievably real for you during this time, in the same way that I experienced. God is so good!
If you look at my little guy today, you would never know he was a preemie! He is a perfectly healthy 10-month-old (8 mos. adjusted) little guy!
I will be praying for your children too–I only have one other child (she was 17 months when I was hospitalized on bedrest), so she spent a month and a half being cared for by other people.
God will carry you through this time! His promises never fail!

  71. Molly says:

    Congratulations!!! How wonderful!!!

  72. Heather says:

    Toni and family,
I’m thinking of you and praying for you all. I had a 3lb 9oz baby girl who was born 9 weeks early. Preemies are true little fighters and stronger than they look! Today mine is quite a feisty 3&1/2 year-old…I look forward to hearing reports of Baby Cora getting stronger and healthier with each passing day! You are an inspiration to us all! Have faith and stay strong & positive!
    Heather

  94. Amy says:

    Congratulations!!

Hopefully the time in NICU will be very short. I’ve had babies in there twice (32 weeks and 29 weeks) and you never get used to it. You’d think doing it once would have prepared us but it was just as hard as the first time.
