The past few months I’ve spent almost every day sitting in the beautiful Florida sun watching soccer practices, games or working in the yard. While I love the sun, I do not love skin cancer. Even with the use of sunblock the kids and I are browning up and it is challenging to protect everyone from the sun when it is sunny all the time!
A few weeks ago I received two hats from Outdoor Research. I had been wearing my baseball cap to the soccer fields, but it only shielded the top part of my face. These sun hats from Outdoor Research do a great job of protecting your whole face.
The papyrus brim hat shields your whole face from the sun. My husband quickly snatched it up and has been wearing it all the time. My kids like it too and it’s breathable so the hat doesn’t cause your head to get any hotter than it would already be in the sun.
I also received this awesome Kids’ Helios hat. I chose orange so my boys and girls could wear it and it has UPF 30 protection to keep their little heads from getting sunburned. This hat is super cute and my kids love it. It also floats so if it happens to fly off at the beach or the lake it is easy to find floating in the water. (Great idea, huh?)
My kids spend so much time outside it is nice to know their faces are being protected while they play.
What I like about these hats is that they are high quality and will last a long time. I’ve purchased cheaper hats in the past and they only lasted one summer. These hats are very durable and I imagine they will last for several summers.

My family loves to go outside in the summer and fish! Everyone wears their life jacket, has their own pole, and we go to the local marina and fish on the bank for hours. It’s a great time, and my younger child loves to just dig in the dirt and find bugs. Love these hats!

We just PCSed to Guam and have really been taking advantage of the area. Between boonie stompin (island hiking), going to the beach and pool we are outside lots each day! The hat would be great for my 3 year old!
I am a SAHM, but a forester by trade, my family loves hiking and exploring new outdoor opportunities of any sort. My husband loves water sports but with a 1 yr, a 3 yr, and a soon to be born, we are having a hard time finding the right opportunity, so for now… we are walking, flying kites, playing at the parks, and using our beautiful backyard to get outside and enjoy the natural world! we live in North Carolina and my family and I spend lots of time outside going to parks and playgrounds and, just recently, soccer games for my (near) five-year old. That’s been so fun. Soccer Mom!

We’re getting ready to PCS to northern California, where it isn’t necessarily hot, but definitely nice, and we’re really looking forward to beach combing and playing in the sand.

My husband has been taking sailing lessons and our girls have been out once so far. We hope to get out a lot this summer and have a few day trips planned with some good friends.

We bike and hike a lot in the summer. We are in Colorado, and the altitude seems to make the sun feel stronger on your head. I bought hats when we moved here, but we could sure use new ones.
Our town has a minor league baseball team and we love to go to the games. We take our son on the weekends and my parents occasionally keep him on a weeknight so hubby and I can have a date.

My family and I enjoy working outside during the summer. Oldest son (19months), likes to help me weed out the garden. And after a hard day’s work, we’ll fill up his baby pool and let him splash around!

My family and I love to go to a lake up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It’s only about an hour and a half away and we go spend the day. We love playing in the sand and water and then hiking on nearby trails. In the evening we rent a campsite and have fire- complete with roasted marshmallows!
I take our kids to the park all the time and they always have fun. Sometimes we take a little picnic lunch.

We (husband and I) enjoy riding our bikes, while our little one loves to spend time at any park she can convince us to take her to.
We spend a LOT of time at softball games (that’s an understatement). I already have a sunglass tan on my face. This would be an awesome thing to invest in.
We love to spend our summers on our favourite Nova Scotia beaches! (Great looking hats!) I always opt for orange too because it’s easy to spot my kids in a crowd!
We are so excited to spend our first summer with our new little guy and look forward to checking out the red rocks in Southern Utah. Working outside is probably what we do the most, but the work is rewarding – as long as there is no sunburn.
We spend so much time outside in the summer. And now we’ve added 2 baseball players to the mix. My kids don’t keep their hats on very well (which drives me mad) but I buy at least one new BIG hat every summer and I wear it everywhere. My dad had a malignant melanoma when I was young and it was scary. we take sun protection very seriously around here.

To answer your question – we spend the summer hanging out at the beach and try to do a few camping trips and hiking trips.
We like to go camping and will be going this year with our four children, 1, 3, 6 and 8 years old!
We love going for walks (we live in upstate NY so that is not an option for a chunk of the year).
With 2 boys we are always outside. From working in the garden, to going to ball games and the beach to days on the boat fishing. There isn’t an outdoor activity that the boys don’t like doing.
My family loves to just play outside – soccer in the backyard, playground at the park, or riding bikes around the block. We also love our family walks in the cooler evening.
We love to swim in our pool-which is not heated, but is relatively warm when summer rolls around.

I have a small family of 3. Our daugter is 22 months and we do almost everything outside. I think it is better for her to be playing and doing things than sitting in front of the tv. She loves being outside ridding her tri-cycle and playing in her pot up tent by the pool. We go hiking in the near buy state parks and we go to air shows. I always make sure she is well protected with sun screen and hats. I just haven’t found a hat that is small enough for me except a ball cap we found in the boys dept of target that has sence been lost. I would love to find something for myself that fits!

We live on a farm and I’m constantly reminding my two boys and my husband to wear their hat – we are outside all day long with chores and other farm things that need to get done. These would be perfect. Right now, they only wear baseball hats, but as you know with boys, their ears and neck get badly burned. I would also use the hat for my gardening, weeding, planting, etc. They look very lightweight and I love the color options. We moved to a little ‘starter’ farm as we call it last year. We spend tons of time outdoors in the summer in our garden, taking care of the horse and donkey, mowing, fixing the barn, and entertaining friends who like to come here to get away from the ‘city’. This summer we are going to do a lot of hiking as my 16 yo is training to go on a 50-miler with our Boy Scout troop
We live overseas and are planning to spend two months visiting our family in the states. We plan to kayak on the bay, bike along a rail trail and spend time at a little beach, so the little ones can play in the sand. These hats look fabulous for our summer plans.
We have a 29 month old, a 19 month old and a 4 month old. We just put in a play area and the kids LOVE being outside playing in it. We are looking for ways currently to protect the kids fully from the sun without making them too warm.

We always wear a sunhat and sunscreen even if we are going out for a few minutes. Living in high altitude we also have to be very careful of sun exposure. People are often unaware of how much sun they are getting because it feels cooler and less humid in high altitude. I hadn’t heard of this line of hats before and I will definitely check them out.

Our family just recently moved to the desert from the Oregon coast, so we are planning on getting out and exploring the new surroundings with a lot of hiking, picnics and nature outings this summer (of course with lots of sunscreen and sun hats).

We love camping. Just yesterday I zipped up my purse in the dark car and it brought back those mosquito-drenched camping-in-the-tent nights. So great, well except the mosquitoes.
Every summer my kids and I meet up with extended family to go camping! This is great because we not only get to see everyone but we also get to hike, swim, eat roasted marshmallows, and make wonderful memories with everyone! We look forward to this trip every year!

My husband was just diagnosed with advanced metastatic melanoma.
He hasn’t sat in the sun for 12 years and has had blood work done every 3 months since a suspicious mole years ago…but all of our doctors believe this was probably from childhood exposure.
f I hear one more person say how “rare” skin cancer is, I think I will scream or claw my face.
It isn’t rare, it’s just that no one ever thinks it will happen to them…
as I coat my 3 kids with spf 100 and won’t leave the house without ball caps, I’m hoping I can keep them from being protected.

We live on a lake in NY State and so we love swimming and boating. We are a very active family so we are always outside when it is nice. The kids play sports, we walk and bike and just love the warm weather but we are very careful about covering up and using sunscreen especially since last year I had a BCC removed. We like walks at various state parks – waterfalls, nature trails – gets us out and relaxing as a family. My 11 & 7 year old boys LOVE a change of pace!
My family of four kids and a sweet horticulturalist husband has always loved studying nature. Even before it was a curriculum:) Growing up my sister and I were outside as my grandmother pointed out every critter and curly leaf. We wrote with rocks and played kitchen with all of the elements outside. I want to keep that same love for the outdoors thriving in my kids. Now I have to be wary because of skin cancer that has left its mark on several. Im trying to be extra diligent to remember to wear a hat and put one on my kids. I love these because they are effortless. No matter if my hair is up or down, they should work!
My family loves to spend time down at our creek and family pond, fishing or just playing in the water, looking for crawdads and such. My 17 year old daughter is now into geocaching, so there will be much hiking about this summer. We live close to Pipestem State Park in wild, wonderful WV, which provides lots of opportunities for hiking. We also love basically stone-hopping across the river at Sandstone Falls.

We enjoy playing yard games like horse shoes, badminton, croquet, and things like that as a family. Being a family with two very fair skinned redheads in it, we are always very careful about protecting ourselves from the UV affects of the sun. Hats are necessity for sure!
