Here is something you might not know about me, I collect cups. Not anything fancy, just the clear plastic kind you find at Target, Walmart, or Bed Bath and Beyond. I get them for my birthday, Christmas, and sometimes just because. I like my plastic cups almost as much as I like fresh flowers.
Today I am using my heart cup, it is one of my favorites. I love these cups because they are fun, last a long time, and the kids don’t break them when they are unloading the dishwasher. I think I have about 20 cups, so far…
So, what about you? Do you have a favorite thing, something you collect or love? I love to hear about your collection.
PS: Everyone in the family uses the cups not just me. I realized after I wrote that I had 20 cups it seemed like an obscene number for just one person.

We, too, use plastic drinking glasses. We just like them better than glass tumblers. We have two partial sets that we use.
I guess you could say that I collect coffee mugs. No matching set there, either, but individual mugs that I like.
I collect socks. The funkier, the better. I think it’s kind of fun to be dressed up all nice and know that the socks I have on are covered with some brightly colored pattern and nobody knows but me.
I collect coffee mugs as well and I guess you could say I collect teapots too although not intentionally. I have received several as gifts. They are pretty to look at though!
Coffee mugs and socks. Goofy, colorful and crazy. I also like small goofy office supplies and patterned file folders. It is the little things that make me happy!
I collect paper. Scrapbooking paper for the most part, office paper, even pretty post it notes. There is just something refreshing about having a small but vivid bit of beauty; colors and designs all made to be pleasing, or to evoke emotions, or even memories.
I love aprons. I wear one every day. I think I have 8. Seems like a lot but you know, they keep me clean and I wash my clothes less and my aprons more. Works for me.
Your cups look cheerful and fun; I can see why you like them!
I collect t-shirts .. my husband does as well but, his collection is much broader than mine ..
We’re into goth things so, most of them are ‘dark’ ..
My biggest collection to date is my ‘Relay For Life’ tees due to the fact that I’m an Ovarian Cancer survivor ..
As the travel family, we collect mugs from most every bed n breakfast (they have cozy ones), resort (they make us smile), sports team game (they make us cheer) we’ve enjoyed the most. Mixed in are some fancy ones we serve homemade cappaccino in and a scattered assortment of mugs we were gifted with after appearing on a special radio or television interview. Each bring back a positive reminder of a wonderful place or time…
Hmmm… I like mugs and socks, and pretty paper… just like everyone else who commented… but I don’t intentionally collect any of those… I just smile at the ones I have. I can’t think of a single thing I collect… even though little bright things do make me happy.
I do always have a journal going though… and I really enjoy picking out pretty journals. My daughter has picked up on this pleasure too and we have fun selecting our journals every few months or so. The writing itself is a pleasure as well… actual pen and paper writing… but you can’t collect that… or maybe you can and that is what journalling is all about… the collected thoughts plus the pleasure of keeping them in a charming book.
I have a tendency to collect things I can make cards with, nice stickers, paper, rubber stamps. The nice thing is that I can then make some cards for people with them so I feel as though it is useful. It also helps me relax too.
I have had the awesome opportunity to travel to a lot of other countries and have kept a small collection of knick-knacks from each one (England, Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Czech Rep., Kyrgyzstan – plus the ones my husband has been to and continued my tradition)… I’m working on shelving for my sewing area now and hope to display all of them.
I too collect coffee mugs, more specifically Disney character mugs (usually bought on extreme clearance at the Disney store) So far I have three different tinkerbells (she’s my favorite), one snow white, one eeyore, and one alice in wonderland. There are no other coffee mugs allowed. Since its just me and hubby 6 is plenty!
I have collected coffee mugs from places we travel, and everyone knows I like BIG mugs, so I get them as gifts. I like coffee mugs because they eventually break and you don’t get too many
Playing cards from our travels. I would LOVE to collect different kinds of cups… the hubs is totally against it though… grrr
I collect scissors. Yes, I know it’s bizarre, and so totally not intentional. I have somehow managed to amass quite a collection and I am certain I have at least one, if not more, pair in every room of the house. I have them in various sizes and colors. I am simply amazed at how often I have a need for them, and am always thankful to have a pair close at hand!
I collect plastic dinner plates.
Something like these http://www.kitchenaria.com/tableware/kids/monster-plates-set-4/kitchenware_201.html
My husband is certain that this is a sign of mental illness. LOL I have enough of them that we had to put some away in another cupboard.
It started with barbie plates for my daughter and spider-man plates for my son. MY part of the collection started when I found a cartoon-ish naked Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with conveniently placed bushes keeping their modesty. I HAD to have that plate to show my husband. Sadly, it melted in the dishwasher… but it had been well loved, and well used!
I have everything from flowers to Halloween skulls… Right now, I have one that is shaped like a man’s Hawaiian shirt and another that is the head of a Yorkie dog with a pink bow in her hair. Oddly enough, no one ever uses that one.
And the whole family humors me and we eat off of these every night. I like to think that I am teaching them portion control, as the plates are smaller than our nice set of dinner plates… but really, I am just giving them memories to look back on and tell their therapist!
I love your cups, great idea. I collect books and items from different decorative items from other countries.
I love using the fun cups at your house. They make me smile, too.
I collect very similar to this! I kinda have the same affliction for plates & tall coffee mugs (not short ones for some reason!)–of all colors and designs, however since learning of all the BPA and lead paint (most of which leach into warm things fastest), if we use them at all, we only use the plates only for cold, dry things like sandwiches and have gotten rid of many of my mugs. I have replaced them with just a few (1 per person) of the Fiesta brand (only one now certified lead free made in America and no BPA either). But they are sure pretty aren’t they!
I collect big fat coffee mugs….well used to…..now I’m trying to be good
I love the idea of collecting plastic cups now that the kids are old enough to use regular “glasses”. I love anything that looks like it belongs on a scrapbook paper design!
I used to collect music boxes but they’re a little big when you get too many. I also have a collection of angels. One year all my piano students got together and each gave me an angel for Christmas. I love collecting white antique / vintage lace handkerchiefs. / Small, flat, pretty, useful… I keep many and really do use them, but I also give them away to special people when they move, or are going through a tough season in their lives. I’ll be giving one away this weekend as a long-time friends moves out of state.
I collect mugs, which I drink my morning orange juice from and tea in the evenings. I have quite a few Mary Engelbriet mugs. I was going through items in the kitchen that were going to a church rummage sale (that in turn benefits the community). My daughter asked me which ME mugs I was getting rid of and I said none! :0) I’ve also collected mugs started at the beginning of our marriage when we were in England with the military. It’s a great keepsake as most of them have names of places we visited. I still buy some if I see something I like!
