The photos below are of our recent trip to Colonial Williamsburg, one of my favorite field trips!
One of the reasons I homeschool my kids is because I love the flexibility. I cannot count the number of times we have decided the weather was just too nice to stay indoors, so we packed up and went on an impromptu field trip. Colonial Williamsburg, Krispy Kreme, hiking along Skyline Drive, trips to the beach, museums, and parks are all a regular part of our homeschooling school year.
Unfortunately, many public schools are short on money so things like field trips, art, music and physical education are cut. Lunchables Lunch Combinations wants to change that, so they started a program called Field Trips For All. They believe that kids learn better when they have hands-on experiences, and I agree. (I think I learned more about Abraham Lincoln during one visit to the American History museum than I did in my entire high school and college career. )
According to American Association of School Administrators over 30,000 schools will cut field trips next year! If these cuts effect your children, you can nominate your child’s classroom to win one of 50 field trips sponsored by Lunchables.
If you don’t have a child in school, you can always nominate a friend, neighbor, or local school to receive a field trip.
The field trip to the Columbia Space Center below reminds me of my trip to the Kennedy Space Center when I was in elementary school.
Kids over the age of six are eligible to nominate their class to win a field trip. This is a great way to get your kids involved in their education. Visit the Field Trips For All website to nominate your class. Who are you going to nominate?

I’m, of course, the Field Trip Queen – it’s the reason I write travel guides for a livelihood. I agree, so much learning (esp. history and science) can be processed and recalled much easier when it has a hands-on activity attached to it.
The two most popular categories in our books are HISTORY and TOURS (factory tours, especially). Tt’s no surprise to me – they’re my favorite types of field trips, too!
thanks for sharing… this is a good program! added you in my blog list.
