2011 BAH Rates Released

DSCF0004 2011 BAH Rates Released

The 2011 BAH rates have been released by the Defense Travel Management Office. You will need your duty station zip code and rank to calculate the new rates.

On average BAH rates dropped 0.6% to reflect the recent housing crisis. The rate drop will only affect people who transfer into the area in 2011. Those are currently stationed in the areas that had drops receive rate protection and will continue to draw BAH at the 2010 rate.

You can check out the BAH FAQ page for answers to most of your BAH questions.

What! Our BAH went down by $100! Our rent sure did not.

Don’t worry, you won’t receive the lower rate. Those who are receiving a previous higher rate are protected. You will continue to receive your old rate, but you won’t get a raise.

Ours went up a tad. It’s gone up over $200 since we moved here last year. There was a jump between 2009 and 2010 rates. It was a HUGE jump moving from Kansas to here.

  3. Lauren says:

Thanks for posting this! :) Ours went up $21, hooray1

  4. Jen says:

Thanks for posting the link. I was just looking for this info last night and couldn’t find it. In the DC area it went down a little – $39. At least ours personally won’t go down.

  5. Laura says:

Is that base housing?? If so, it is beautiful!

  6. amanda g says:

Thanks for posting a link! We went down also about $60.

Between this and the pay raise … I am beginning to understand why so many go Republican in this regard. The cost of living is not really as low as some of these rates indicate.

    • TheHappyHousewife says:

      I agree L.B.
When you consider that BAH is supposed to cover housing costs and utilities I think it doesn’t reflect accurate costs either. Especially because in many states electric and gas rates have risen significantly over the past few years, and in places up north the winters have been brutal.

Ours went up $160 dollars! It had dropped about $100 before we moved here. We weren’t living paycheck to paycheck and probably could have done just fine on the same pay but I’m not complaining about an increase!
