Price Check with Google

October 8, 2008 · 7 comments

I recently read in my Real Simple magazine that Google is offering a free price check service. If you are out shopping you can text Google at 466453, then type price, followed by the name, such as KitchenAid Mixer. Google will text you back with the price of that item at various retail stores. This sounds like a great idea as Christmas is fast approaching. While the service it free, check with your cell phone plan to see how much a text message will cost you. Many plans include text messaging, but some do not.

You can do a lot more than price checks with Google SMS. Here is a video Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65n-yPpg9yo

That is SO cool. It’ll save a lot of worry over whether or not a purchase would be a good deal or not. Thank you!

I don’t text, but my brother loves the places that allow him to ask anything… now I forget what the name of that service is, but he loves it.

I’ll have to check my plan for text messaging…

OK, so is there a price check option for those who don’t have a cell phone?

I think I have heard of this being used while shopping at yard sales. If you find furniture, particularly antiques or anything else, you can text this number to get some comparable prices to see if you are getting a good deal.
